Nothing required under the KCAB scheme as far as I can see but check yourself on - http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/download/1100/abshealthreqs.pdf

Check for hernia's because that seems to be a big problem in the breed.

Its not a big problem, no bigger than an umbilicul anyway.

PRA has been confirmed in two Shiddies in the UK, never a problem before, so now it is being asked to screen your dog.

No required health tests.  As for hernia's it is only umbilical hernia's that they tend to have due to being a short faced breed and short cords.  These are very rarely a problem.

Seen only a few litters and every single one has had almost all with hernia's and don't think it's anything to do with the mother causing them from what I've seen and many have been quite big too.

It can also be due to the dog being delivered and then not waiting for the placenta to appear, the pup and sac get pulled.  if the breeder knows what they're doing it should be prevented.

I thought umbilical hernias were generally thought to be hereditary nowadays....

theres nothing to obide by but I would have eyes, ears and respiritory health checked. These are the most common ailments of the Shih tzu breed.

Its up to you of course but I would have these tested :)
