I think most people on here do microchip their pups and have contracts, but this will never be enforce as it would cost too much in resources to police it, the puppy mill/ farmed dogs do sometimes come with a health contract but its not worth the paper its written on.

Im sure something similar came out not that long ago and it got laughed out of the commons as the status dog owners wouldn't give a hoot.

> I think most people on here do microchip their pups and have contracts,

Nope I prefer to have mine tattooed, but encourage the new owners to chip their pups too.  I know with the tattoo register being run by dog people that should a dog of my breeding be found and owner not contactable, that they will contact me the breeder, that is not the case with chipping.

Of the breeds I know not many permanently Identify their pups, of the ones that do some chip some tattoo.

I'm going to see if I can do a poll.

Just replying at the end not to anyone in particular. I fail to see how enforcing microchips will do much to solve the worst problems anyway.
Status dogs attacking people. even suppose the yobs chip their dogs. Unless you can actually catch the dog and scan it while it is actually attacking to prove whose dog it is what will a chip do to stop an attack?
Fed up with your pet and want to dump it? contact the microchip co and  let them know you have sold it before you do.
The state cannot ensure that all cars are licensed and insured and the budget for cars is far more than for dogs and it is easier to visibly mark a car than a dog.
And while we are on the subject cars kill and maim hundreds of  people every year,  but society is not harrasing car owners like dog owners.
Education has to be the way forward. not more pointless and impossible to enforce legislation Sorry for the rant.
By the way I am not against micro chipping. All my dogs are chipped but I jusyt don't see it as the cure all the authorities seem to think it is

Agree with all of the above, statutory legislation requires car drivers to have a valid licence, MOT certificate (where applicable), Insurance and Road Tax, does this stop unlicensed, uninsured drivers?  No it does not.

I also object to being FORCED to insert a foreign body into my dog.
