Hello
Can anyone recommend a good place to get a show lead. I have a Goldie. Pale colour. Is it best to get a pale lead or for example a bright red lead. Also can anyone recommend good videos or books on showing Goldies. The ringcraft classes so far have not had Goldie specific people so am feeling very much in the dark as am new to showing.
Thankyou. Look forward to any advice.

The best person to advice you is your dog's breeder, they can also teach you how to show trim your Golden. Goldens are shown on fine slip leads, either fabric or leather, usually a colour that makes it as invisible as possible against the dog's coat. When the dog is stood you loosen the lead so it is not around the neck but more over the shoulders, to clear the neck line, hence it has to be a slip lead.

You could try http://www.stanroph.com/products.shtml

She has certainly had a great deal of success in showing her dogs so I'm sure the DVD would be a good starting point (although I've not seen it so can't vouch for it personally).

Hi tigertiger

Hessonite make lovely show leads for goldens. The one I use on my pale golden is the Leather Slip Lead with Swivel in cream and it blends in really well. My friend prefers the half leather, half braid one, but I don't think it hangs as well.
With regard to a DVD, the Stanroph video is OK, but very basic and I didn't really feel I learnt much from it. The one I found the best was Handling Showdogs the Hurley Way. Although it isn't specific to any breed, it does cover a lot of the basics and ring etiquette. If you need a DVD on trimming, the best one I found was by Jenny Frankland Mace of Purbarn Golden Retrieviers. It doesn't appear to be on her website though, but I am sure if you rang her she would sort you out with one.

Good luck and welcome to the breed.
