Not sure if it was just me, actually no, I know plenty of people turned around to see a dog being walked through the length of the whole building with a dog which had a hacking cough. Anyone else there think it sounded just like KC? The people I was with thought so...
Guess this means we need to look at keeping our dogs away from others for the next few days to see if symptoms come about :-( BIG GRRRRRRR

Think you were standing near us Denny when it was being walked through..
It does now mean we have to confine our dogs away from others?
I personally now thinking about it would like an explanation from the lady with the Bearded Collie to explain away, if its not KC then i'd appreciate to be told either way.

I wouldnt panic too much, certainly wouldnt confine the dogs, one of mind had it and didnt pass it on to the others and he lives with them and shares the same water bowl :)

Ahhh but when going to shows all of us sign a declaration to enter each show.
In that declaration it states
"I/We also undertake to abide by the regulations of the show and not to bring to the show
any dog which has contracted or been knowingly exposed to any infectious or contagious disease
during the 21 days prior to the show"
So in essence you should not be taking any dogs to shows if you have one poorly at home
even thou the dog you may want to take is not showing any signs or symptoms as it has been
knowingly exposed to an infectious or contagious disease.
I've had personal experience with this one, where someone had taken a dog to the show the dog
was looking ok & normal (but they had one of their dogs at home unwell with bad stomach bug)
....within 24 hours of the show I had a very sick dog in the vet on the drip
with haemorraghic gastroenteritis. All because someone wanted to win a rosette....
Not only did it cost me vets fees but I was temping at the time and so had to lose a weeks wages whilst
I nursed my dog back to health as she was so poorly and couldn't be left for any length of time without
wanting the loo etc.
People can be very selfish without realising the consequences of their actions for others.
Especially with the very young or elderly at most risk.

no I was going to enter but had another important visit come up :) No Gordon classes either which was a shame.

i love gordons. my ex vet nurse has them. don't see many about now sadly.
Yeah we was hanging around by your ring for most of the day.
I have to say i have been quiet lucky my first girl lucy got kennel cough before we had chas, when chas was a about 18 months old he then caught kennel cough but lucy didnt, then about a year later when maddie was 11 weeks old she caught kennel cough but lucy and chas never showed any signs of it, but danika has been lucky so far just hope it stays that way.

Right the 3 days is up this lunch time, do you reckon it'll be ok for my boys to now interact with other dogs? They've not had any signs of KC...Thankfully.

sorry to stick my nose in but were have you had "3 days" from, the incubation period for KC is (not100% sure) 7-10 days from point of contact ?

I went through lots of websites about it and states that symptoms will show up to 3 days after being exposed to it, hence why i'm now looking at 3 days from the show.
I can't see that they can be a carrier of it without actually having it?
They both have been vaccinated against it, sorry just want to be careful thats all, doubt many if any others have been who were at the show, maybe i'm being over cautious? The dog wasn't right next to mine, it passed us coughing up the barn, massive agricultural barn it is.

just wondered thats all, my lab had it a couple of years ago and she took about 8 days for symptoms to show i would imagine it depends on the age and immune system of the dog and the strength of the partucular strain of KC- to be honest you sometimes have no idea of knowing if your dog has been near an affected dog. i think it works in a similar way to the human flu virus, the dogs build up an immunity and having the vaccine helps IMO to do this, with our 3, one has caught it since and thr others didn't caught once. Its quite difficult as you dont know that your dog is harboring an illness until it comes out in them
you are right to be cautious and very sensible. wish everybody thought the same.

Not that im saying your dog had contact though as i think it's caught from the nasal droplets but ofc don't qoute me on that lol, perhaps just go with him where others font frequent for a few days.

yes its "shed" so again similar to the human flu / cold, things you touch or cough and sneeze etc (again as far as i know - dont quote me lol)
Yes it can take up to 10 days for a dog to show signs that its got it, during which, imagine all the places a dog can go with an unknowing owner. A coughing dog there is no excuse at all. As its air bourne any dog that shares the same air space as the coughing dog is at risk. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which dogs catch it and which don't. I've known vaccinated dogs go down with it while unvaccinated ones pass it by.
One of mine caught it from a show a few years back and gave it to my youngest dog. the two others never caught it.

There are many viruses that cause it so a dog may be immune or vaccinated against a particular strain but not another.
A few years ago a lot of dogs from our breed club show went down with Kennel cough, and there had been no obviously coughing dogs there.
Mine were in a soft crate literally touching the soft crate of a couple of dogs badly affected, yet mine never got it.
