hiya all my girl had 10 pups and 1 is a runt she wont feed it so ive took over she is eating very well but she aint passing as much as i would like anyone know how many times should they stool a day or is there anything i can give her to help pass them?
You need to keep putting it onto the nipple and don't let the bitch refuse to feed it. If you place the pup on the teat then distract your girl with some food or something she may not notice. You don't say how old the pup is but It needs colostrum for the first 48 hrs then milk. I would be trying to get the bitch to accept it rather than hand feeding it.
Just spend extra time getting it to feed and once its a bit bigger the bitch will probably accept it.
the pup is 48 hours ive tried to put her in with the other pups about every hour or so and the mother even tried to take some of the pups out of the way she just looks at the runt and pushes her away she just gives her a smell and goes to the other pups tried 1 on 1 still she just pines for the other pups aint sure what else i can try just worrying me cus she aint having alot of stools and too late to take her to the vets :(

Hi,
You can take a warm cloth and rub her stomach with 2 of your fingers in long strokes, also her bottom area as this will act like her mothers tongue..just like she would be doing for her normally, just look at the mum with the other pups and try to replicate what she is doing.
We had to do this with my dogs one and only pup although she did eventually take to her.
Do the tummy rubbing this evening and get her to the vets tomorrow.
She will be ok..good luck
Annee :)
Take a warm flannel or cloth and rub tummy area and all over bits, make a note of what the puppy is passing - you would expect around 2 stools a day, please do try and get pup to fed off mum, even if you have to hold mum down and hold the puppy on while they get going, move all the other puppies to another warm box while the little one has chance to fed and catch up with the others. Let us know how you get on. If you are at all worried ask the vet to visit mum and the litter.
Best of luck.

am i right in thinking this is the bitch that started to whelp at 6 weeks into pregnancy? has your vet checked the puppies and bitch over? hows the pup now?

bitches will often reject a puppy that is cold, and a pup that is too cold cannot digest food.
If she is singling it out then she may be aware that it has a physical problem, or perhaps the extra handling it is getting from you, and artificial feeding make it smell foreign.
Can't see the problem though as it is easy enough to hold the pup to a nipple and allow it to feed whether she ignores it or not, just make sure you do it at least every hour, that she doesn't' hurt it, and use warm cotton wool balls soaked in water with a little olive oil to make them toilet before a feed and then again after.

Yes, pop the others in a warm box for a little and hold the little one on a teat, telling mum to lie still whether she wants to or not. Good luck!
yes mom was 64 days when she had the pups the runt is starting to poo more now so thats a worry off my mind as for the mom she lies there but the pup wont latch on now looks like she is trying too but cant seem to find the nipple i have a app with the vet at 4.30 today will see how it goes and thx all for the help and advice :)

Use one of the larger pups to get a milk flow going. Then pull pup off and replace with the little one. The pup will find it easier to suckle once the milk has started to flow.
yes mom was 64 days when she had the pupsThat's 9 weeks and 1 day, not 6 weeks. :)
has the puppy been checked for cleft palate?
> yes mom was 64 days when she had the pups
Then she wasn't just 6 weeks in whelp 3 days ago, when you posted about whelping signs, she was 9 weeks+ when she whelped. That's a relief, as pups should be viable.
How are you getting on with the litter?
