We have a lab pup and it has been hard work but such good fun I did wonder about doing a bit of puppy raising when she is a lot older does anyone do it and does anyone know how to go about it

By `puppy raising` I take it you mean breeding? Well firstly breeding is nothing like the good fun you have been having with your lab puppy. It will be constant worry and expense. Is your bitch kc reg? It would be impossible to say at this point whether your bitch would even be worth breeding.
There are important health tests as well. Breeding isn't for someone if they just like puppies you need to be passionate about your breed and only breed to try and improve it.

Judging by the title of the thread, I think the OP means that she is considering being a puppy walker for Guide Dogs for the Blind in future, when her own pup is older. GDBA ask people to take in and raise a puppy until it is ready to go back to be trained.

OP, I'm sure there are people on Champdogs who know a bit about this so hopefully they will come along soon.

Yes I gave up breeding dogs many years ago my plan was once Willow was older to have a pup to raise either for guide dogs or help dogs as I believe they are bred in house and walked by helpers until old enough to go to training. Only problem might be giving it up to its owners once it is ready to go for training. One of the reasons I asked was someone recently asked me if Willow was a candidate. She is not but I did think it might be fun.
Also should I decide to have a litter from Willow I will make sure she is health tested and goes to a suitable dog as one time would give me another pup of my own and for my children who would like a puppy. Trouble is again she comes from a litter of 8 so we could end up with more pups than the family need. Still that is a good two to three years away and  a lot can happen in that time.
I am old fashioned enough to think and my experience would back it up that bitches tend to do better if they have pups. we have had both and the only ones to have health issues have been those that had never had pups. Coincidence it might be but it applies to five out of 11 bitches owned over the years all have been ones not to have pups some speyed some not the other six had a least one litter and lived to a ripe old age with no health issues at all.
Not that that will influence my decision if the pups are not likely to be wanted or I am not as certain as anyone
can be they will get ood homes I will not have any
She is KC registered from health tested parents

L looked into puppy walking a couple of weeks ago some may remeber and some very helpful people came forward and we chatted.

I decided despite some concerns to go a head but was amazed to discover that guide dogs for the blind do not have walkers in the whole of the uk and my area was one of them. I Then investigated other chariites only to find the same problem no I dont live in the top of scotland or similar, no offense meant wish I did but down in lovely south london.lol
I dont know anything much about the breeding side but know they have their own brood bitches and that the breeding practicies are very precise as are the instrutions with puppies that are to be walked I dont just mean the training side but food vaccinations your home etc. There is no room for you views as far as I could make out.So as long as you are happy with that and I am not saying it is wrong I think it would have been a great experience but not for me from where I live.

good luck and maybe some of the experienced people who contacted me will be along soon.

Hello :)
Im a puppy walker for Guide Dogs and my second pup is due to go into training on Monday.

Yes that is true, it can be very difficult as you do have to follow their guidelines and as with any big organisation there are issues, problems with communication and you have to brace yourself for how hard it is to give them up, after all if you didnt love them like your own then they wouldnt be able to do their job properly.  How about you have a look here:

Usher's Diary

Ive just finished writing a diary about my last year with Usher (my latest guide dog pup) it goes from the interview process right through my first pup (who became poorly) all the way through Usher's year.

We were asked to make a video of his year which is currently at number 9 in the Youtube charts :D which will also give you an idea of what it is like.

I can honestly say that in becoming a puppy walker it was the best decision I have made as the last year has just been fantastic.  Ask me again next Monday when Usher leaves.....
