We are currently using Simply - Large breed puppy food for our 14 month old Chocolate Labrador. I have tried to research the food and wanted to know other opinions. I have started researching as our vet has never heard of the food.

We have been told it us one of the best as it is consistent with the ingredients.
Any thoughts on Simply food????
We were also thinking of Royal Canin...

I have two GSP's, having won a big bag of Simply, I thought I would try it, ingredients looked ok, but sadly my younger dog who is 18 months would not eat it, I tried adding things to it, and put warm water with it still no joy. I did find when I wet it there was no smell coming from it. I feed Trophy and if I wet it, it smells apertizing. My two are now on Trophy as they have always been, and they look great on it! the younger one I show and he consistantly wins partly due to how he looks. (I think), and more importantly they have two good meals a day!

SuperTed,

Welcome to the forum..:-)

These are a few brands which I personally like. Simply from reading online seems good as it is Gluten Free, so a lot less filler. For me RC is not what I personally like for mine, but so many dogs out there do very well on it.

http://www.bernpetfoods.co.uk/ - Orijen is a huge favourite in my house when the pennies allow. Acana has also gone down a treat when we won some at a show. Ziwipeak is mega expensive but i'm sure ruddy brilliant.

http://www.ardengrange.com/ - They have a nutritionist there who can advise on what is the best food for your dog. Also coat appearance and skin have a reflection on what you're feeding..

Or you could go for it and do raw food?
Each dog will accept foods differently, so its trial and error. A good way is to keep check of their weight and make sure there is not a huge amount of output. The colour of the poop also is worth keeping tabs of.

Hi. We use symply for our 9 month old golden retriever and she looks fab on it, we have been thinking if changing brands as it's quite pricy, but she looks so good that we our sticking with it. Our stockiest has also just started a loyalty card for it so once we have our purchased 5 bags we get 1 free!

i was thinking of buying symply dog food but it has corn gluten.
Corn causes hyperactivity in dogs according the the dog trainer Victoria Stilwell.
Corn gluten is added to pet food to slow down the transition of rancid animal fats, to slow down the rotting process. i don;t think it's healthy if a dog eats a high percentage of corn gluten.

my dogs eat fish4dogs. i'm interested in the barking heads as well.

Symply used to be Nutro (Nutro got bought out, but Symply nabbed their nutritionist) :o)

I've always been a fan of Arden Grange but when I got my latest edition the breeder had switched to Symply and I must say that she has done so well on it that we switched our older girl on to the Senior food.
Not all varieties have corn gluten eg the large breed puppy has it but the puppy doesn't.
Having sung the praises of this food far and wide I am majorly disappointed by the recent price hike. I really think that an increase of £3 for a 12kg bag is rather excessive and is probably paying for the recent tv advertising by Pets Corner.
