Was talking to a guy tonight that had his rescue Newfoundland PTS at the weekend at the age of 10. WHich I said was a good age, we carried on talking then he said about his mate that had a Newfie that died at ....17 :o :o :o I did ask again if he was sure and he said yes :o :o
I have never heard of a newfie get to 17 Years :o
Anyone heard of this???

Never heard of one get to 17.  I know of a few that have made it to 14...and one that is 14 now and still doing water rescue demonstrations which is amazing for any dog of that age, let alone a giant breed.

10 is most commonly quoted as the average but many, many that I know make it beyond that.

Don't know where the one of 14 the SL knows but I have also heard of one that's 14.  Have known a few to be around 12.

The one that's still doing water work at 14 is in Wales.  Friends lost their 14 year old last year.  Another friend lost her 12 year old just last week.

I've just been checking with a friend and of his 8 Newfies over the years, 4 made it to 12, he lost one aged 11, one at 10 and the other 2 were just 7 & 8 when they died.
