Hi guys,
we will be travelling over with our champion bitch to be mated in the UK and the stud owner has requested she is put on a course on antibiotics before mating? I am recieving conflicting advice from various people who give antibiotics after mating and some who don't bother at all! Any advice would be greatly apprciated!
some will give after ,maybe stud owner wants to make sure her girl doesnt have a infection that could be passed to their boy? x
hows the progeterone readings going? x
I don't know what to do with her really!! I was going to give them after but don't know whether to bother or not. Progesterone is rising really slowly had her tested on Monday her 14th day and she was only 1.1. Not sure whether to test her tomorrow or Sat..oh decsions!!! Nightmare!!

My vet point blankly refuses to give them unless there is an infection, which to be honest is the right way of doing it, we don't take AB's just in case we get an infection.
I've never giver antibiotics but then I've never been asked to.
I wonder if the dog has had a problem........... Some treatments for UT infections in stud dogs make them infertile for a while afterwards. Has he produced a litter recently? Do you know the owner well enough to ask probing questions?
Well thats what I was thinking I wasn't going to bother..I had thought about geting her swabbed just to make sure she hasn't any nasties before she is bred. This is the stud owners protocol that bitches should ebteated with antibiotics before matings incase of any infectiosn that could be passed to his dog. Yes the dog is consistently producing good litters.
yes id do the same "swab her" and ask stud owner if thats ok? id be more than happy with that if it was my dog being used ,this is what we ask anyway xx
I've never routinely asked bitch owners to put their bitches on antibiotics before coming to any of my boys (all health tested champions, CC winners or import) but I do ask that people have their bitch swabbed to check for any infection, and then have anti b's if necessary
I'm wondering if I have left it too late to swab her she's on her 16th day now?
