Has anyone used this food on a bitch in whelp and the litter? I actually got a huge bag of this to try after speaking to the RC rep but I don't like changing food with a pregnant bitch but RC is just such a good food, that I don't know what to do. I have just never heard of mother and puppy food before. Supposedly mum should be fed this from week 6. Any thoughts?
I bought a bag of the Starter for my previous litter and gave it to mum from 6 weeks in whelp (I normally feed the HT42D as soon a bitch comes into season until 6 weeks in whelp). Pups started on it but weren't very keen for some reason so went on to Maxi Babydog which was fine.
I now hear they have stopped making Maxi Babydog and bitches should be fed on the starter as are pups until 8 weeks of age. I think to change pups onto junior at 8 weeks, just as they are either leaving you/settling in to their new homes is a bit silly as they have enough to deal with without a change of diet.
I have just mated another of my girls and at this stage am in a dilemma as to what to give her at 6 weeks in whelp - will wait until she is scanned first for confirmation.
What I also think is silly, is that you can still by Maxi Babydog from pet food retailers, so I may buy enough to keep mum, pups, bag for new owners and the pup I hope to keep before it all sells out.
I am a member of RC Breeder Club and have heard nothing direct from them as I know some breeders have.
Sorry I can't be of much more help.

Hi, I have weaned my pups onto this..... they seem to be doing really well on it, They have also had
some of the mother and baby wet food, I agree that it seems abit much changing them onto the junior
food at the time they are expected to move to there new homes....

Have to admit that RC was my choice for years. Can't discredit it - just got too expensive at over £83 for two bags of mini junior. That was breeders rates too.
However, I have only used mini junor and mini adult. Changed my girls on to junior at 6 weeks, and pups were reared on the same - plus wet food. I have to say that I never had any worries about condition. It is a really good food IMHO.

Well, Jean, that's the thing, I got the food for free! I had a call from RC and then a rep dropped round to my house to offer me a free sample. I used to feed RC many years ago but stopped as it was too expensive and the quality changed(paying the same for worse food). But I took the food and now have a 15Kgs bag of mother and baby so I don't want to waste it but I just wondered what all the thoughts were on this food.
Thanks to all who replied!

WOW!!
I wouldn't waste a freebie 15kg of RC myself. Go girl.

I have won quite a lot of the RC but find with my dogs they cannot take more than about 25% mixed into their other food,a s any more and they have horrible yellow poos like the contents of a babies nappy.
Tried it with the pups this year and had the same effect so mixed it 50/50, still a bit loose so then mixed it to 25% and they were fine, but only to sue it up.
So definitely what suits some may not suit others, though mien rarely have negative effects from foods, and get a fair mixture.
I contacted my Rep at RC - she phoned back yesterday - voicing my concerns over the withdrawal of Maxi Dog etc. She says they have changed the Starter and it's easier to soak and also changed the Junior so there isn't so much of a difference. She also said change around 6 weeks so they have time to adapt to Junior while still with me.
I will wait until my bitch is confirmed in whelp and then order some. I do think it is one of the best feeds you can give a bitch in whelp/rearing puppies so I'm prepared to give it another try.
