Hi All, my girl last came in season 14.3.10 was mated and produced a litter, she came into season last Saturday 23rd October. She has always been a 9 month girl before but was I wrong to assume she would have come in later and will she continue to come in every nine months? My last litter resulted in a Csect with spey so I have no experience of this. If  I am thinking of spaying when would be best to get her done?
Thanks
Angela.

your post says that she was speyed at the time of c section? anyway the best time to spey a bitch is part way between seasons so I would get it done in 3 months.

Sorry re-read it now meant last litter before this one LOL (actually it was her mum that was speyed).

Litters do funny things, my friend reckons they often come in the same amount of time from the litter as it would have been from the season normally. Ellie used to be a 7 month girl, after the 1st litter she turned into an 8 month girl and continued like that for 2.5 years, then went back to 7 months on the season we just got the singleton from. So it will be interesting to see what she does this time!

Yes, that's what I meant. I suspect it's one of those things where every bitch is different. :-)

Think also the gap between whelping and the next season will depend on the health and resources of the bitch, by that I do not mean the bitch is unwell or unfit but it takes the body time to recover and it is unlikely that she will find herself in breeding condition until the body has returned to a state that can support a further pregnancy. In most cases this will be between 6 to 9 months.

If only that were the case the puppy farming bitches would have an easier life - if their 'owners' had to get them into good condition again before they came into season!

You time seasons from the start of one season to start of the next, regardless of whether a litter was born.

I have found that my bitches are usually a month or so later than if they had not had puppies, but some people find they come in as normal.  I have found that as my bitches age the intervals get longer between seasons.

Thanks, seems like she might be a 9 month girl then, might wait 4 months and then book her to be speyed then but got a while to decide.
