Hi,

My affix is in this months gazette, so hoping no one has any issues with it.

What i'd like to know when is it safe to change my dogs kc name by adding mine at the end? Do the KC get in touch with you to say that no one has objected to my name or do you just guess that no one has after a certain time?

Merci x

Yes, unless things have changed you will be sent a certificate when the name has gone through and been accepted, I do not imagine that the change of name would be accepted until the affix has been accepted and finalised.

Hi Nova,
I've had the certificate sent through, this was before it even went into the gazette, but they said to wait until after the gazette has come out, a few weeks after and then I can apply to change the name, but wasn't sure if i'd hear from them or not.
I've tried calling them before and waited for ages and got no where and its not a free number, so thought by asking on here i'd get the info for free :-D

So does look promising then that I should be able to apply for a change soon?
Better get onto breeders to let them know, and hoping they will be happy for me to add my affix on at the end.

Hi again, in which case give it a couple of weeks and start applying for the name change they will no doubt do it once your new affix is confirmed. The only other thing is you do not, I don't think, need to ask the breeders but to do so is a courtesy.

Indeed, which is why i'm going to call them. Think it would be rather rude not to tell them and then suddenly see the name change at a show in a catalogue..
Thanks :-)

I left mine a couple of weeks before applying to have all the name changes done. I am sure the KC will get back to you quickly if there have been any objections.

Yes, I've always asked before adding my affix - must say the breeders both seemed a little surprised to be asked, but like you say it's a courtesy.

I was told you could add it staight away.  If there was any issues they would change it back for me and to another one without any problems.

Why would you tell the breeder that you're adding your affix to the kennel name, it doesn't change it unless you take theirs off.

> Why would you tell the breeder

I like to keep in touch with my breeders and often turn to them or the owners of the sires if I have any questions.
I often see them all at shows too.
It is a courteous in my eyes to do that and I like their opinions and thoughts on things.
I've managed to speak to one breeder who really liked the name and was happy with it, the other is away right now, but i'm sure she'll be happy with it :-)

I'm going to fill out the paperwork tomorrow and send it off..

I did not think you were allowed to remove the breeders Affix. I know you can add your Affix to the end of a name but thats not the same as removing the original Affix.

No you can't remove the breeders affix, but a breeder can remove an affix added to their dogs name if it comes back into their ownership, provided it hasn't won into the stud book by then.

Also if an owner bred both parents of a dog they can add their affix at the front of a dogs name. So a dog could be 'owners affix, breeders affix name'.

They do still need permission from then person whose affix is added though, which i think is a little bizarre as if you bred the dog & it has come back into your ownership that should mean you can remove the affix that is not yours(as long as the dog has not got it's stud book)

No you don't need permission to remove the affix that was added if the dog comes back.

Yes, a friend of mine had to have permission from the owner, of a dog they bred, to have the affix removed
