hey all
as most of you know my girl was mated 2 weeks ago today and as you know we didnt really get a good tie

well i was wondering how soon should she show any signs she is booked in for a scan 3 weeks tomorrow but i dont know if i can wait that long to know as im already going gray from the mating trouble we had lol...

i read that the teats being big could be a sign?? well as of yesterday they are alot bigger than normal and they have gone really pink, normaly they her skin colour

is it to early for that and am i just looing for things that are not there or could this bee a little sign :)

I had a bitch mated 4 weeks ago. Her teats are now slightly larger than usual -but to be honest the only way I could be sure of that is the fact I turned her, her mother and her daughter all upside down and compared teats last night. :) Otherwise no signs whatsoever yet. Some bitches start with morning sickness, going off their food etc after about 4 weeks but usually there are few signs before then.

I had a bitch mated 4 weeks ago :-) me too..

We I will use the word mating very losely as it wasn't great BUT it looks like she may have taken.  Getting rescanned on Thursday but first scan looked promising.

My girl was scanned at 5 weeks and confirmed in whelp, at that time I wasn't too sure and I hadn't got my hope up as she had missed before, she had been sick twice, teats were a little bigger but otherwise not a lot different. Well what a difference a week has made she is now eating like a horse and now gets up for breakfast, she was really fussy before. She is getting bigger by the day!! There is no doubt now that she has taken.

well i guess im looking for signs to early but her nipples have for sure changed colour...this 3 week wait is killing me :(

nothing else has changed though apart from that and shes not playing as much as normal she normaly has a good hour 2-3 times a day playing with our 9 month old but she doesnt seem to have the same patients with her...

Welcome to hell week. lol.

The teats change colour to pink when in whelp but I'm afraid they can do in phantoms as well.  You'll have to slog it out sorry.  It might or might not be a sign.  They can also stay raised from the season, mine do for a few weeks.

they do like to tease us.  The wait is worthwhile if a whelp is there.  otherwise better luck next time.

Just let her relax to give any possible whelp a chance to snuggle in and develop.  She can pick up on your stress also.  It could be positive.

I know it is hard but almost try to forget about it for the next 3 weeks and relax, it is hard to do, but you will end up a nervous reck if you carry on like that! you will start to see symptoms that aren't even there ;-) I was the same with my bitch when she hada phantom bless her, then the time she caught it was totally different just relaxed for 4 weeks, didn't scan either, but by 5 weeks she had gained size and then it crept on more and more till she was fit to bust! keep us updated and relax :-)

i did,I don't think she had half as many or as severe, althought my breeder looked at her and thought so, but they disappeared quicker than i cared to admit.

But you'll have to!  :-)

I must be the only person that doesn't worry about the is she, isn't she thing.  I feel that gestation is so short that we know soon enough anyway!

For me, I wouldn't be too bothered about finding out with my small breed as they have small litters, but with my large breed, it's vital. The right buyers aren't easy to find,  and normally, as soon as I know the bitch is pregnant I'd tell all my waiting buyers. If she wasn't, they could then go elsewhere. This time, I have a very different scenario and one that scares me a lot. Cutting a long story short and not putting too many details, after a very long journey (7 hours each way) and expensive weekend (that included a hotel stay) with the planned stud dog, we went home without there having been a mating. My husband and I discussed what to do and we decided that as we had everything planned and in place for a litter from this season , and that next season would be very impractical for several reasons, we would use a different dog. As we co-own a new import who hadn't been used yet but has done well at shows (CC at first champ.show) and had just been hip scored, we went home, went on a different journey (just 3 hours each way that time) and used that dog instead.

Lesson learned: never change the stud dog without asking the buyers opinion FIRST. Every single of my 12 lined up buyers declined a pup from the new combination! They had particularly wanted one from the dog we failed with. Had I realised this, I would not have mated the bitch -not because the buyers should dictate what dog to use, but because I'd need more time to gather a NEW waiting list. So I sit here with a potentially pregnant bitch of a difficult breed and no waiting buyers at all. I need to know whether she is pregnant or not to be able to go out and do everything I can to find buyers -waiting until the pups are born will not be soon enough, especially as this bitch had a large litter last time.

Hi gemz82.

It's agonising isn't it.  I am breeding my small breed bitch for the first time (after years of research).  We mated her at the end of Aug/beginning of Sept and it has been the longest four weeks of my life.  We tried to mate her in Feb but she only tied with the stud dog once and it didn't work, so technically i've been waiting for this scan day for about 7months LOL.

We had the stud dog stay with us this time and we had 5 consecutive days of 20 min ties.  I keep telling myself that is must have worked this time, but the only difference i have noticed is that she has been a bit sick in the morning for the past few days.

Her scan is booked for Monday but i think i'm gonna get it changed to tomorrow because my fiancee is off work this week  and i know i'll be gutted and need consoling if it's a negative again. I'm such a wuss. LOL.

At what stage of pregnancy do your girls start showing physical signs?
