This petition is intended to be presented to the representatives in the
District Attorney's Office and presiding judge in this case. By signing it,
you are asking for the maximum animal cruelty punishment to be administered
if the alleged defendant in this case, Brandon James Ferguson of Visalia is
found guilty as charged.
On July 10th, 2001 at approximately 3:00 p.m.,
in Tulare, California four Shepard-Labrador puppies were taken from their
mother and one by one shoved into an agricultural shredding machine in an
equipment yard in Tulare, California. They were 8-10 weeks old. An anonymous
tip to the Tulare Sheriff's department prompted investigators to search the
business property of Vierira Custom Chopping.
Animal control officer Daniel Bailey and a detective found animal body parts
in a pond, on the ground and in a machine used to process corn for silage.
According to a newspaper article written by Lewis Griswald and published in
the Fresno Bee, Officer Bailey and a detective recovered 5 1/2 tiny paws, a
spine, a nose peice and fur. Brandon James Ferguson was arrrested at the
scene. Bailey said, " It was very obvious that the pups had been massacred
in a shredder." He added that this was the worst incident he had ever
witnessed in 10 years as an animal contol officer. It appeared that the
machine had been aimed at the pond when the puppies were killed, Bailey
said. He said the detective ordered the shredder taken apart and that more
remains were found inside and on the bottom of a broom.
Somehow, the mother and one puppy escaped unharmed and are being kept at a
local veterinary hospital. The remains found at the scene will be given DNA
testing to see whether they match that of the mother and remaining pup.
