Since there was a hair topic I was just wondering how often people wash their hair?
I use to wash mine everyday but have been told by many hairdressers that is not good maybe every other day or 3rd day- so now I am trying this- I wet it every morning tho because my hair is curly and I stopped straightening it everyday cause it was really drying it out even tho I put alot of stuff in it for that. My hair does seem much healthier now.
I don't wash mine every day because it simply doesn't need it. In fact my hair is often at its best a day, maybe two after washing. Its so thick it tends to look a little wayward after washing and needs time to calm down.
I envy you your curls.....can't believe your're flattening what I spend hours trying to achieve with a curling tong :) Swap you any day with my boring straight stuff.
Im a once a day i feel awful if I leave it to days. Its poker straight so looks limp and I go three rounds with Miky Tyson in bed (at least thats what my hair looks like).

Every day, apart from anything else, I feel grubby if I have a shower and don't wash everything.

Mine gets done every 2 days and as i've said before mine is curly(hate it) but my drying brush has exploded and can't find a decent one to replace it. Also GHD's have died..
I always put normal conditioner in it, scrunch it and then leave it to dry. The in between day I rinse it and put conditioner back in again. This has helped the condition along with no dying it any more..
Curly hair is naturally dry anyway..

I wash mine every other day and only condition the ends. Never put conditioner on my scalp, makes hair too greasy. I do keep it tied back though(it's down to my waist)

I wash mine everyday, except some Sunday's if I'm not going anywhere. Mine get's so greasy it's horrible looking in the morning when I get up.

I wash it once a day and condition or it tangles hopelessly. I know some people say you shouldn't but my hair is horrible and lank if I don't. Had the conversation with a hairdresser once and she said it clearly wasn't doing my hair any harm as it was in great condition.

If I wash mine more than once a week my scalp is on fire.

I wash mine once a week...trying to arrange it around shows(wash on that day)...it's lucky if I manage to wash it mid week. It is so thick, that it takes an age to dry & I am not keen on using the hair dryer. I don't use any conditioner, spray, mousse or other hair product, just shampoo.

I do mine every other day. I've got so much of it I hate drying and straightening it.

usually twice a week as I don't have the time to wash and dry it every day. It usually looks better after a few days anyway.

Three times a week - any more than that and I end up looking a right greasy queen! My sis is a hairdresser and she said the more you wash your hair the more grease you will produce. Also I swap shampoo's every now and then (swapping between 3) as she also said that if you stick with the same shampoo (esp something strong like H&S and Pantene - neither of which she recommends) it can irritate your scalp

Mine isn't .

> H&S
The hairdressing family I had, refered to this as paint stripper & I would never use it.

Thats what my sister calls it too! LOL!

Every other day, it gets too lank otherwise. I like to wear my hair up and it will only go up on day two (far too floppy on first day).

Me too... I get fuzzy bed hair so daily it is!
I once had a hair colour take too well, I was advised by the manufacturer, (their hot line), to leave H&S on my hair for 10 mins, as this would take the colour down... I had burns to my neck and my almost waist length hair looked like it had lumps of sticky chewing gum all through it. My hair dresser came to my rescue, spending hours trimming and conditioning. She actually wrote to the company to complain... I got oddles of vouchers from them. But I will not touch their products,(nor H&S), again!!

Every day, soaking my head/hair in the shower is the only way I come to!

That's surprised me! I have naturally curly hair, that I wash every other day because it is so greasy!
I don't ever comb it, or brush it. In fact (shamefaced) I don't even own a brush.
Once washed, I hang my head down, and drag my fingers through it backwards. Don't look at it again until the following day!

Jean - maybe the hairdressers were saying this to make me feel better?? That's a lot of them then ;-)...
My hair goes into ringlets and i hate it

When I have a bath I just pin my hair back- when I shower I wash it. I do have stuff in my hair to keep it from going frizzy and I do have to wet it every morning or my hair is just a mess, then usually pin it back for work. I let it dry a bit then I put in that Liquid Effects sometimes I'll blow dry it a lil cause I don't care much for the wet look, just want to keep the curls from frizzing- My curls are kinda like a spiral in a way. Sometimes its nice to have it straight but I found doing that all the time was not good started to really dry my hair out. Hopefully it will grow some, my hair is a lil above my shoulders- pulled straight it actually can kinda sorta touch my shoulders lol
Funny my hair was more greasy if left unwashed after a day and was a lil on the wavy side, now that I have had kids its curly... weird
Thanks for all that- pretty interesting- def going to try just washing it every 2nd day- I haven't washed it since Sunday and today is tuesday hmmm def going have to wash it tomorrow. It def does feel alot more healthier :-)

they did an experimetn on teh TV once where they ahd someoen not wash their hari for over a month. Initially it was greasy but after being left a few mroe weeks the oil production etc stabilised and it was more like it would be with oru dogs, a naturally clean and self regulating thing. Here are soem Google hits:

I used to wash my hair daily but it made it more greasy - basically you are washing away the natural oils so then it works overtime to replace them which makes it greasy straight away. I found that leaving a day inbetween helped. Now I only wash it when it needs it or when I've been to the gym and it's much better.

Everyday of my life ! On the v.v. odd ocasion I have been forced not to its awful all day.

Everyday. Only time I don't wash it everyday is when I'm in hospital.
> If I wash mine more than once a week my scalp is on fire.
Now we know who smells in your house, and it isn't poor Lexi.
Oh and Barbara I'm pulling your other leg this time. ;)

When my son grew dreadlocks he didn't shampoo his hair for over a year. I told him that if he started smelling or if he got 'pets' in his hair they were coming off. Neither happened - his head didn't get smelly and he didn't get infested.
> When my son grew dreadlocks..
Could he sing like Bob (no woman no cry Marley too?) Classic..

Sadly he can't carry a tune in a bucket. :-(

I like to keep my hair dyed green so I only wash it once a week (twice max!) to save my OH having to dye it all the time (why don't they make permanent fun coloured dyes?!). Sometimes I spray it with this dry shampoo stuff that comes in a very old fashioned looking tin but most of the time its fine.

Who told ya it is shampoo, I thought you're supposed to sniff snuff.:)

Thats why my hairs smelling funny then :-0

I wash my hair every day, I have very fine hair and if I didn't wash it every day, it would be even more lank and lifeless than it already is.

Me too Sharon - It will occasionally stretch to two days but only occasionally. If I have to be up early I can wash it at night, let it dry naturally and its fine in the morning but it will only last a day. Currently I seem to spend everyday with sweat dripping off it :-( - and I haven't been doing anything strenuous - so I have to wash it everyday.

I saw a chap in town today who had waist length dreadlocks, he looked like a 2 legged Puli. Didn't get near enough to see if it smelt but if only I had my mat-breaker on me..........

One of my close friends had dreadlocks. They felt very strange and had like an earthy smell, not unpleasant though, just a natural woody earthy smell

That's not your hair, that'll be your OH ;)

I use mainly Aveda products which are great for not clogging up hair with all sorts of chemicals. I wash my hair every 3-4 days. My hair is the bane of my life and I would love for it to be reasonably straight and kempt looking...thank you Aveda :)
My great grandmother had hair down to her knees and wore it pinned up in a sort of braided crown. My grandmother told me she never washed it, but brushed it for an hour a day. And a redhead friend of mine only washes hers ever 6 months or so--it looks gorgeous and shiny, not in the least greasy. Sadly that will never be me.
> dry shampoo stuff that comes in a very old fashioned looking tin
Batista - my 13 year old uses this on the day between washes and loves it . It is now available in 3 or 4 fragrances .
I recently bought some similar stuff which has just been brought out by Pantene or one of those brands . DD said it wasn't as good as the Batista , yet it was twice the price !
> Batista - my 13 year old uses this on the day between washes and loves it .
What's this Batista? that's not shampoo that, what you talking about?
I had this dish last year when I went to spain, in a little spanish tapas bar.
Batisata - bacon, lettuce, tomato, sometimes over there referred to as BLT.
Don't listen to 'em Pookin they'll tell you anything. ;)

LOL

How exactly does that dry shampoo work and what does it look like? is it a powder?
I pack the dry shampoo at work- you can even get a shower cap you put on your head which is another way to wash your hair- wondered how that worked to...
