Topic Dog Boards / Health / Weird symptoms in Westie
- By westielover2 [gb] Date 10.09.10 08:26 UTC
I have a 3 year old male Westie. Just recently he has been displaying some strange symptoms every few weeks, I have taken him to the vet during one of these episodes. He starts panting heavily, and shakes and wants to be right by me whether I'm sat down or stood up, its almost like hes spooked. Once this episode has passed hes fine again.
This morning when I came down it happened again. They last about 10 minutes. His heart does not race, my vet said that if he couldn't stand it could be a form of epilepsy but he can stand and even run about.
When it is bonfire night and a loud firework goes off nearby he acts like this, but I often cannot see if he actually being spooked.
Does anyone have any ideas??? Not sure what to do he just seems so distressed when it happens!

I would have thought some sort of fit, probably epilepsy but could be a fit bought on by something else. People who suffer a petit mal (sp) do not fall over so I would think it may be something similar.
