An acquaintance has a basset that has been doing very well in the show world. Thay also have Beagles. They were going to a show for a weekend and taking the beagles so little miss basset went to stay with friends who also had beagles. Nobody knew that little miss basset had a dry season. The result was, nine weeks later, she has produced a litter of 8, four alive and well, four born by c section and all were born dead. Boy, are these pups going to be stubborn little devils lol, not a cross that I would want to train. So my question (?) is, how come come she managed to get pregnant, and of my three bitches, two didnt get mated, and the other one didnt take? Sods law, or what!!!!

It was partly the fault of the vet!!! The bitch was taken in with a suspected " stuck" puppy. He left her a day before he operated, and the four remaining pups had died. Thankfully the others are all doing well

Philippa

How sad for the dead pups, but hopefully the others are doing well.

I came across a tibetten terrier x cocker spaniel at the w/end...what a funny looking thing it was. All hairy like a tibetten, yet wil a spaniel nose and ears !! :D

I used to have a friend who had two basset/beagle crosses that she adopted at different times in Germany as young pups. She loved the results and swore by it for their dedication and sweetness. They were ok, but very hard to train in my opinion :) She lived on large acreage in Texas, so it didn't really matter to her :D They were both fixed young so she never worried about "more" pups :) :D
toodles
