Topic Dog Boards / General / Need to buy a dog bath
- By Ailsa [gb] Date 05.09.10 19:47 UTC
We have just had our bath taken out and replaced by a shower. I want to buy a dog bath suitable for a westie. Any suggestions as to which dog bath to buy and from where? Some of the ones I have seen online seem to have water butt taps which could be awkward to empty.

I use the shower to bath my dogs (small terriers).
You have to kneel down for them but that  is the same if it is in a bath.
I also have to use a lead to help persuade them to stay in position...:)

What about a laundry sink? They are deep enough and can hook up a shower hose to wash with- plus you can stand while bathing them :-)

I just bought a bath matt to put in my tub so the dogs don't slip- absolutly love it they don't slip all over :-) sure made bathing easier this time...

I got one from ebay, but have seen the same one at the trade stands at some dog shows.  Mine was listed on ebay (just searched dog bath), it is a tough but lightweight blue plastic with plug hole and extra drainage hole, and 2 additional spaces at one end for shampoo etc.  Cost about £30, and I had it fitted onto a wide shelf built at just the right height for me so I don't have to bend but can lift the dogs in easily

I do all my dogs in the shower.  The little ones can stand nicely on a rubber mat, with me kneeling outside.  But I get in and close the door when it's the Collies....   so much easier.  They sit and wait nicely when they're done while I do me!

We bought a large rectangular shower and the actual shower is in the left hand end of it . I think it would probabaly be eaiser in a smaller sized shower. Our dog is a westie so quite small. Hubby did get into the shower and washed him last night but as I have arthritis in my knees I don't think that will work for me.I do have a suction cup thing and a noose to keep him in the shower (had that when we had a bath and it is brilliant). Off to look up dog baths on Ebay.

Laundry sink is also a good idea. Just need to see how easy they are to get hold of.

Some of the dog baths have water butt style taps which I don't really fancy.

I do cheat on this one with the Collies, as it kills my back to bend over them getting up a lather.  I have a double length shower, so room for one of those old ladies   shower seats.  I sit and bath them!

I don't have a walk in shower, just a shower over the bath ... so I throw a dog in the bath and get in there with them!! Not much room for the rubber ducks though ....
