my newfie has had a bad belly for a few days,after starving him and some meds from the vet he recovered fine,we went to an animal charity day out as he was better and all was well,today he is coughing,i lung racking dry cough with no mucous,it is only after sleeping and i think he has done it three times since 6am when i got up,now i will take him to the vets incase its kennel cough,but im scared for my pug george,he has laryx collapse as well as a million other health problems,i it too late to get him to my mother in laws for a few days so he does not catch it,any advice would be great,im feeling poorly myself so its not a good day

It may be too late but I would move the Pug anyway, if it is KC you will need to leave the Pug with Mum for a few weeks as it takes a while for the infection to develop and is a few weeks before an infected dog is clear. Anyway take the advice of your vet they will know how your Pug is likely to react to this sort of infection and advise you accordingly.

oh god nova i am so scared, i pray its not kc,i am sure my newfie will be fine,he is a big strong healthy puppy age nearly 9 months,but george is over 7 years now and with his larynx etc i am so scared it will collapse,also i love my mother in law but i need to watch george closely for any signs of things going wrong,plus i dont know how she will cope without spraying polish,airfreshner,perfume or candles whilst he is there as he is illergic to it all,i can only think if it is kc,stan caught it on sun at the cats charty thing,loads of doggies there,george did not go,i will keep you informed,thankyou for responding

Jo please don't panic, you would be lucky to avoid KC all together just take your vets advice and do as suggested. Has the pug been inoculated for KC? If so it is likely it will cause no problem. Anyway do not listen to me who does not know the situation, ask your vet and see what they think.

And sorry I did not mean to alarm you, take precautions and I am sure you will be fine.

no, dont worry my love, i am a naturally panicky person,right, my dogs have their vacinations every year,but i dont know if kc is in it,i will ask my vet,to be honest i never knew there was a vaccination for kc,so i will check it out,i just worry about puggy,he has been through alot and i dont want him to catch it,

Jo, there is a KC vaccination within the annual booster (in most cases) and there is another that can be applied into the nose but KC is a virus like the common cold and therefore there are loads of different upper respiratory infection that a dog can get but the vaccination and inoculation does help.
