Topic Dog Boards / Health / Six month old puppy with face lump!

My friend  has a 6 month old puppy that has over the last few weeks noticed a hard pink lump on the puppies face, it has got bigger. and now about the size a pea. They are now very worried and will be at vets ASAP to have it seen to, has anyone experienced anything like this before? What was the outcome?

Where about on the face is it?  Maybe its a reaction to a sting?

Do wonder if it is a stray tooth, agree it needs to see a vet but I can't suggest what it could be. May be a swollen saliva gland or even Lymph node.

Best to let a vet decide- but it may be a hystiocytoma-  a benign tumour. In many cases they resolve naturally within 2-3 months.

Info and pic in the link, you do need to be sure what you are dealing with though, so first port of call must be vet.

On my dogs, I have tried both removal and allowing nature to resolve. I would now favour nature! One of my girls had one on her chin at - this was surgically removed and she had the scar all her life, another girl was left to nature and no scar. They are quite common in pups/young dogs.

Best wishes.

I'm the opposite - my boy had one at 13 months on his leg which was removed straightaway and you would never know it had been there, but my friend's dog had one which the vet said to leave, and by the time they removed it it was 3 times as big and left a very noticeable scar. But in the OP's case I would certainly get the vet to look at it.

my girl had one of these removed right by her muzzle
It was a benign puppy lump

this could be a benign lump but could also be cancerous or it might be an infection due to to a foreign body or anything at all....

Please dont leave this lump. We had a young working bitch that had a lump that got larger and larger and the vet said that if we hadnt come in when we did, the infection would have eaten away the muscle in her face.....

I would always have this type of thing investigated and any vet that tells you to just leave it without doing proper tests needs a good belt....
