my 3 dogs are all insured with tesco.

one has a viral infection and was at the vet last night and got two jags. She is going back later for check up. Today the other two are coming down with it so they will be going to the vets later to.

I have no idea how much this is going to cost,(and thats not a issue) but im sure individually it will be below the excess on the insurance but combined it could well be over. Would i be able to claim for the total bill or will i have to do 3 indvidual claimes?

Thanks

Think you are in the hands of your vet, if they bill you for treating a dog for an infection the insurance may well pay out, but if they bill for treating 3 dogs they may well not pay out - have a word with the vet they may help but I would understand if they feel that is not ethical.

I think you'll find that each dog's illness and treatment will be a separate claim and an excess would be payable for each.

I too think (Well know actually) that it should be three claims...the vet and you will be commiting fraud if you say otherwise!! It is the vets shout but I doubt he will.

hi

yes was thinking each dog would be seperate. Ill ask the vet when im up.

Even more annoying the original dog was booked in to be spayed today and i have taken time of work and cancelled plans for the weekend so i can be with her and because of this infection she cant be done.

Don't forget that, if it's likely that any of your 3 dogs will need follow up treatment, you should still submit a claim otherwise the insurance company cannot see that you are paying the excess.  It's amazing how many people don't do this and I remember one person not so long ago telling me that she pays every bill under her excess amount - even if it is for follow up treatment.  The poor woman was spending £100's of pounds each year for tablets that she should have been claiming for.

Hope your dogs are ok

Tell Tesco that they have had treatment and they should record it then if the condition reoccurs it may total more than the excess and you can claim, hope that makes sense :)

Hi

All dogs well on the mend and as i thought a heafty bill. But never mind cant be helped.

The vet has descovered the original dog has a low grade heart murmer. She doesnt expect it to cause any problems and will still be getting spayed next week. I was telling a friend and she asked if i had to tell the insurance company about the murmer. Hadnt even thought about it. But thinking if i dont and something does crop up they wont pay out. also will the policy price rise because of this.

I am really thinking about cancelling the policy and putting money away monthly and if i do get a mega bill pay the balance on the credit card.

I stopped my dogs insurance some years ago and found that because my dogs had no expensive treatment the total of this account had reached several thousands so OH and I took ourselves on a cruise but we still have enough set aside to cover vet expenses although I have not put anything into the account for a number of years. I do still run insurance for the first year of a pups live but then I stop it.
