I have just noticed that certain parts of the UK are going to be sweltering this weekend - good for me, not very good for my dogs who HATE the hot weather.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/heathealth/

Also its worth thinking about people who may suffer in the heat too..
They are having a huge heatwave in the US and Canada and i know its going up to around 36 degrees daily in some parts that don't normally suffer too badly from the heat...

I would be grateful for some sun.. been raining her for the past week.. bucketing down for two days solid, and intermittant drizzle and winds for the last 3 days..

edited to add.. just checked our area forecast, and guess what.. rain, again :-(

My OH was hoping for rain and howling gales..............he is comitted to guard boating a rowing race, an annual event....but wants to see world cup final instead. Ah well, at least there is no work at the weekend.....only stuff around here about which I am very good at ignoring!

Oh well I'm off to Ross-On-Wye tomorrow for a SWD weekend, hoping it's nice but not boiling!

We are desperate for rain. We are out in sticks so not on mains water. Our supply ran out on Sunday and we are desperately hoping for a massive downpour to fill up our well and kickstart our water system again!!!

Nightmare.

Water shortages are miserable!
I remember being on holiday (somewhere very foreign), and on the beach was a hosepipe just gushing away for hours on end it horrified me, having been brought up to consider water a precious commodity.
I really hope you are sorted out soon :(

We've had a hosepipe ban introduced today ... it's been throwing it down for the last week.  Who's pinching all our water supplies!!

He he he.. guys.. sorry to laugh, it's tongue in cheek honestly!  But after living (by choice admittedly) on the Gold Coast for just over a year now, enjoy your heat whilst you can!
Our summer has been between at least 38 to 40 plus degrees every day, plus at least 90% humidity.  When I say our summer, I mean for around 4 to 5 months solid.  Same every day.
We did our first summer here with no air conditioning.  The dogs have suffered,we have suffered and I'm so glad to say air con now installed (and pool!) ready for next summer.  It's now winter here thank goodness.
As for water supply - 4 minute showers maximum.  But most houses have 5000 ltr water tanks to catch the rain if and when it does finally fall.  The 'grey' water is used for washing machines and toilet flushing etc.

I'm not knocking the UK heat, because I can certainly sympathise.  I've commuted on the trains/underground network in the extreme summer heat of the UK.
But I do feel for the long term, native residents of Queensland.  They might be acclimatised, but it's going to take a long time for us! lol
Keep cool people x

Wind and rain here, at least dogs are happy as they hate it too warm. Could do with one good day over the weekend to get grass cut though.
Glad we're not at East of England show this year, last time we were there in the heat we went out of hotel for a walk at 2am as it was so warm for dog and us, waste of time going as he didn't want to show in the heat.

Jake BC suffers we hose him off when he overheats, early walk and kept in the cool me thinks. Walkies later after 7pm.

32 C here, far too warm without any aircon.  The dogs are coping far better than the humans.

Am really looking forward to NOT going out tonight made up my mind this morning.I have a nice thawed out marrow bone in the fridge (next to a little bottle for me) made up my mind this morning that should keep his lordship busy tonight. But a bit of a boob got curry for dinner!!
- By STARRYEYES Date 09.07.10 18:05 UTC
Thankfully its not just me then who hates this weather...I usually dont say as I get really funny looks I prefer Spring and Autumn to enjoy the time with my dogs.
One of mine suffers from EICS so I have to watch her in the summer which makes exercising difficult as she wants to be with the others running around but she just cant in the warmer weather , even early morning and late evening I worry .
As for me I get palpatations and feel as if I am cooking from the inside out.

Curries were invented in hot places! perfect food - gets you sweating and cools you down. Or at least that's the theory :)

I went to my local supermarket, and some tw*t thought it was ok to leave their JRT in their van, windows down, while they nipped in for some shopping.
In this heat NO ANIMAL should be left, even for 10 mins. WHY do idiots believe that just opening windows is ok?
Hence I reported the van. I sat and watched the fool run out and drive off. I monitored the doggy and luckily it was ok.

I'm currently sitting by the fire as torrential rain hammers the window and extremely windy. Hens are all in their house peeping out now and again. My st bernard is fast asleep by the fire, gsd on the couch, one cocker on the big dog bed and one asleep on the window sill where he occasionally casts a glance out. Isn't it amazing how only a few hundred miles away is a heatwave and here its like winter:-)
- By LucyMissy [gb] Date 16.07.10 10:25 UTC
Well I had my first shower for 2 weeks last night - It was amazing!!!

Out tank is still only half full though so I am praying for more rain for at least 3 more days!!!!!
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 16.07.10 12:09 UTC
It's poured it down here in Manchester for the last few days.  My roof and ceiling know about it too, hopefully the roofer has fixed his faulty work today when I get home!
