I am toying with the idea of putting a cd player in my new landy (it will help drown out the rattling!) & wondered if anyone had any suggestions. I want the most simple basic straight forward non-technical one I can get....and the cheapest!! Not interested in whether it has a sub-sonic-double-fluctuating-base- beat-woofer or whatever....just a basic cd player & idiot proof radio! Any one's ideas on makes/models/where to buy etc, all help appreciated.

Hi Sam

My husband bought one for me for Christmas and I thought it would be a simple job to remove radio and insert CD player - not so as they were different sizes and had different fittings.

He took it back and I then went to a car radio shop where they supplied and fitted it for me - this is the best suggestion I can make. (The one from the specialist shop turned out to be cheaper than the one from Argos!)

Hi Sam

My car CD player is a JVC., and is really simple to use. Not too many buttons !! Was £120.

STOP SNEERING!!!!!!!!;) I wouldn't buy Jap made on principle. I love my Landy and wouldn't be seen in anything less.....even if "basic model" is the understatement of the year!

Sounds reet posh to me Sam, my hubbies '68 Landy does not have a space on the dash for music gear. Still, do you reckon there are any of 'the other' make that will be still running around at 34 years old :)

Won't the Landy make CD's jump when it shakes ;) ;) :) :) :D :D Just joking, honest.
(I'm really dead jealous cos I wouldn't mind a Landy meeself.)

Sam,
Have you thought of getting a portable cd player with a car kit?
It might be the easiest way to go if you have a radio/cassette player already installed in your vehicle. Car kit consists of a cassette that plunks into your stereo. It has a wire out to the cd player (walkman type) which can sit on your dash/floor/seat. Easy smeesy. You can remove it from the car anytime and it usually has good sound.

toodles

Otherwise, the professional installation would likely be the best route to go  It's a real pain messing with the stereo.

That's eactly what I use Sara, except that i have a mini-disk player and car kit. Means that you can change it from car to car, and pocket it before some bright spark decides to break in and steal the car stereo when you park in town. The mini-disks take up a less room than CDs too, play for longer than a CD and you can chop and change your own compilations.

I would have you know that my toyota is an extremely practical Hiace van - who needs lot of seats anyway <g>

Christine, recently I just managed to stop ian buyting a retired hospital minibus (previously we had a large van) for the dogs. He also wanted to buy two semi-deceased ental caravans. He and a friend plannned to turn them into mobile toilets and hire them out to dog shows, agricultural shows point to points etc. Anyone happen to want a mad husband ...... ?

Sharon,
Have you or your esteemed spouse ever watched/read "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"???? Your husband sounds like the nutty inventor Potts :) :) :)

Sam

Go to Halfords, they have a really good range and will fit it for you.

Correct Liz

Look at Sonys, they do a nice range in Halfords they also do simple no frills models of good quality but well made, and as Liz says they will fit it for you. This takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

All the best Mick
