Hi I have small breed dog, 7 in litter 1 was doing well but this last week has had a course of AB's for suspected chest infection, very laboured breathing, went to vets on Friday again no improvement vet advised to finish course and then wait intil after weekend, took to vets last night vet gave steriod injction and another type of AB, puppy has shown no signs of improvement, vet thinks has fading puppy syndrome, puupy is not interested in feeding and crys for most of the day and night. Vet has suggested putting to sleep, just wanted to ask has anyone experinced anything similiar, before i make this desicion!!

many thanks
mandie

Fading Puppy Syndrome is a term loosely used to describe a number of conditions - there is, I think, a thread on here somewhere written by Admin if I remember correctly about Fading Puppy Syndrome but I cannot find it at the moment.

I have not personally experienced Fading Puppy Syndrome, but thought that it only was applicable during the first 14 days of a pups life.   It could be that the pup has a congential condition, some conditions only come to light once weaning begins.   Or you need a little longer to see if the second course of antibiotics are going to work, there should be some signs of improvement usually within 24 hours.

This is not a lot of help, do not know of anything else to suggest.

Have found where fading puppy syndrome is, if you look under the following you should be able to find it.
