Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Limit or Open

Hi, wanted your opinions, my friend recently put her just turned 4year Dobe Bitch into limit at a champ show, but other people have said she  should of put her in Open?
It is her first champ show but she has done very well at Open level.
Shall we leave it or change it?

Thanks :)

Could be a number of ways of looking at that.

How many in general in Open Bitch? - if only a few she may do well.

How many in Limit - if a big class she may struggle to get placed.

Or, dare I suggest that the competition does not want her in Limit!!!!!!  just in case she is better than the other bitches!!!

You need someone honest in your breed to give an unbiased opinion, most probably the breeder, or a Ch Show judge of longstanding.

Thanks :) I think they tend to have good entries for both classes.

Don't forget Open is the class Champions can go in so to me it seems a bit odd to go straight for Open at the FIRST champ.show if it's a show with tickets. I have a dog on one ticket and I prefer to put him in Limit when I can as I see no need to compete against Champions yet if I don't have to. One of my bitches got her third ticket out of Limit.

If both Limit Bitch and Open Bitch are well filled, then Limit it is.

It is far easier to start with a lower class and then progress up, but once entered in Open it looks rather silly to have to drop her down a class at a later date.

Best of luck with her first Ch Show.

Limit is the class that they should go in.  Maybe it's a case of green eyes monster and some feel that she's good enough to go far and hope if the person listened to them and went into the Open Class that there may be more chance of her being beat.

We stupidly put our 13 month old in Junior and Open at our first Champ show, it did look silly but surprisingly she was placed in both classes, rule of thumb is put your dog in the lowest class they can qualify for so for you Limit.

Well if it's a first champ show even Post Graduate, though I think in dobes it is rare to have mature dogs in PG, so Limit is the owner I would go for.

Thanks all, will keep it as is and see how we get on :) Everyone seemed of mixed opinions at ringcraft and got us a little confused.
