Hi ,

I am collecting my new boxer puppy next week and I want to be able to show him :) I have looked on the internet for show leads and ringcraft leads but i am unsure of what lead is the correct one? is a show lead and a ringcraft lead the same lead ? i have also seen all leather leads and ones with a silver chain on does anyone know which lead am i best buying ?

The best person to advise you and show you what they use is the breeder, they will also be able to give you details of where they purchase their own leads..

start off with a simple rope slip lead. not too think. and maybe matching your dogs colour. this will be fine. you will find you will change it when you go to dog shows and see one you like being used on another boxer. but the slip lead is fine for showong and ringcraft so its a good lead to start off with.

Most boxers I have seen are shown on a fine snake chain with leather lead clipped to it. I agree with the above suggestion for puppyhood and ringraft training, any slip lead will do as they often get chewed and damaged. Also snake chains are expensive so you want to know your dogs adult size before buying so you dont waste money.

for the Boxer pups we use a soft leather slip lead or a very light chain, my wife is also trying out a lightweight webbing lead on one of our new girls as she throws a hissy fit when she gets a chain on. You should be able to pich up something at a champshow or if you know someone who uses Batleys they are doing a really nice light weight show set for about £3.50 plus vat, ideal for a starter for a pup.
