my friend is puppy sitting and has been told to feed him bacon, boiled eggs, ham, chicken etc. he has bad upset tummy and the owner says he always has the squits. i said its because of the food he is eating. he is spoilt rotton. my friend has phoned her and said she has put him on burns puppy food and she went mad saying there is nothing wrong with his food,my friend told her she could kill him with the salt etc in bacon. what does she do now. this pup is from her litter she breed a few mths ago. does she have the right to keep pup and return the money to buyer if she feels pup is not being fed properly and his health is at risk

She has no rights at all I'm afraid as she has sold the pup -it's much the same as buying a TV or any object. Once sold you have no rights over it. Maybe your friend could print out some articles from the internet about feeding so the owner can see it's not just your friend's opinion? Or suggest the owner feeds RAW food such as chicken, meaty bones etc?

I think we have to assume that your friend didn't do her puppy owner vetting very well here.  And she has no hold over this pup, or the way the new owners wish to treat it.

she did ask questions and to be honest this lady is lovely but she is spoiling him like a child. he has dry food added to his meal during the day but and thats what he was given to go to his new home. i dont think no matter how hard you try and check these new owners out if they decide to change pups diet later on you will not know.

as marrianneb has said try advise her to feed raw

i do agree that no matter how hard anyone tries to check(home visits, questionairs ect..) new owners if they want to change diets or anything regarding the pup after they have bought the pup they will, and the breeder may never find out unless you keep in touch with every single new owner.

Tell her to tell the owner that those things are fine in small amounts for an occasional treat, but they really don't give the full range of nutrition a puppy or dog needs. I'm sure she can download back up information on the internet - either raw or complete, whatever they prefer, would be better!!

Such a shame when owners love their dogs so much they inadvertantly over feed. I know of a lovely lab whoose owners adore him but he is so overweight at 2 he waddles cant turn around easliy and is tired out after a short time. They too feed him 3 meals a day of human food plus some kibble.
The vet has tried friends have tried but so far the owners have not listened
