There are so many of them advertising that they sell veterinary prescription stuff - does anybody know of one that is a good one to use (and preferably cheap :-D )? Thanks!

Hi

I generally use Chemist 4 U - for Piriton, Hyperdrug - for Hibiscrub and various other things.  I use VetUK for Arden Grange (always the cheapest) and bird food, so I sometimes add meds too which saves on postage, even when the actual item cost is a little higher.  These are my preferred options and I tend to compare prices between them for all human/dog meds.

I've also used Medisave , and I think I used Petmeds once - but I don't find them cheap enough to use regularly.

Online human chemists need you to complete an online declaration about the use of certain medicines (like Piriton).  I just say it's for dog use as directed by the vet - I've never had any questions back :)

It's worth mentioning that Lloyds Chemist on the high st have a pet section too.  If I need to buy Hibiscrub but don't need anything else (for combined postage) then Lloyds is pretty good value.  They sell Frontline and DAP products too if I recall.

i have wondered about this as my pug is on tagamet syrup,it costs £18 a month from the vet but on a site called aurizon they i can get 6 months worth for £37,it is a human product so my vet said,as he pops up the chemist and pays a few quid for it and then sells it to me for alot more.So how do you know if the site is selling what it says its selling, its a bit scary and also how do you go and get a prescription from the vet to send to the online chemist and does that cost
sorry about jumping in on this thread

If your vet pops up the road to the chemist - can you not do the same?  It might put your mind at rest about the company you are buying from...

However I've never had reason to query any of the online companies I've used.  Chemist Direct sells what you are looking for - and they seem OK too.  Read their FAQ section here

Tagemet is a prescription only drug which means that you'll probably have to pay your vet a fee for writing a script BUT it may still save you money in the long run.  It depends how much he will charge!

If you use an online company you'll need to send them a copy but if you ring them they'll be able to tell you if they want a hard copy or a scanned copy.  They might ask for contact details to check with your vet but they will explain their process when you call them.  HTH :)

You ask your vet for a written prescription for the medication. The average cost seems to be £10 plus VAT.

By using a reputable pharmaceutical company.  Hyperdrug were established back in the 1800's I believe originally as an equine supplier, but has developed considerably over the years.  Even koi carp catered for!  They couldn't afford to risk such an exemplary reputation and I definitely recommend.

I always use Hyperdrug for my dogs Metacam and found them very reliable.
