does anyone have any experience with these kits that get wired into your stereo system? any ones recommended or any to avoid? I keep seeing reference to "parrot" but they all appear overly complicated for my needs and seem to involve ipods...which i do not own!!! just want hands free, wired to speakers, and one that really works well. maybe someone has one they can recommend?

My ex has one in his car. Im pretty sure it came from the car phone warehouse and they fitted it aswell. Altogether, I think it cost about £150, but that was going back a few years. He still has it now and has had no problems with it at all. Havent a clue what the make/model was, but it has been a great investment for him.

For 90 pounds you can get a sat nav by garmin that connects to your phone through bluetooth and you take the call through it!

I had one in my car from Halfords years ago probably about £100.00 It was great , but, when I changed my phone I had to source another lead and when I changed my car I had to have it removed and then refitted.
I now have a Parrot which clips to the sun visor and have found it works really well. All you do is switch on when you get in the car and it marries itself to the phone immediately then to answer the phone you just press the main button. Bought it from Halfords for about £49.99. The good thing as well is if you have access to a couple of cars you can just take it into the other car when you go. I sometimes use my husbands car and it is so easy to move. As long as your phone has Bluetooth it is a doddle.

Hiya I used to sell them.... the rule of thumb is the more you spend on it the better quality the sound will be, the more expensive it is, is usally down to it having an LCD screen where the name of the person ringing you comes up. Parrots are genrally the market leaders being very good quality, to be honest about £100 upwards sounds about right for a good one.

You can buy a cheep examples i.e. £20 but if you plan on using it all of the time its not really that good. If you go with one hardwired into the car the sound will be fed to the speakers so the volume will be great.

Oh and as one of the other posters hae said you do sometimes need an extra wire that patches it into the car these vary in price it depends on the make and model/ year of you car.

If you go into Halfords they can give you a demo and you will be able to see what they do. Note some top range satnavs have built in handsfree.

thanks. actually our sat nav does have hands free but because of the nature of vehicles i drive (landrover HT and pick up mainly) the vlume on the tomtom sat nav cant cope so wanted to get one thats hard wired. think ill have a trip to halfords, and it looks like parrot is the main brand but any more info appreciated :)

You can get the tomtom hardwired as well so that it talks through the speaker system but as its not specifically designed to be a handsfree a parrot might trump it on quality depending on which one you go for.
