Topic Dog Boards / General / Kennels

I will finally be moving house in a few months (yay!!!) and have decided that as its a lovely cottage with not as many 'dirty dog' rooms as my current house that I am going to get a kennel (though i havent told the dogs this yet!!)
It will literally just be for if they come back from a walk disgusting- they are all swamp monsters!! If i have visitors that are not dog friendly- though i try to discourage those people!! or if i want some peace and quiet! ;) so just a few hours at a time really.

I want to be able to use it all year round, so have been looking at the types sort of like this ...http://www.minetyltd.co.uk/lg_images/Dog_Kennel_and_Run.jpg with the indoor section and 3 sides enclosed- my thinking was that this type would offer protection from the wind and rain- as they would come in wet and filthy that would be good to dry them off in without them catching a chill (they live in a centrally heated house afterall)

But knowing my dogs well, i am fairly certain that they would never use the indoor section so this seems a waste of space and i would perhaps be better off with something with 3 sides and no indoor section but some sort of raised platform to avoid damp??

Also im wondering how hot they get in the summer?

As you have probably guessed i have never used a kennel before!

My dogs are a border collie, GSD and JRT, i would want something big enough for them all to be comfortable in but it is just for a few hours at a time- they are very much family and house dogs- so what size should i be looking at?
any tips or advice greatly appreciated!!
