I wondered if anyone knew of any charities that take old furniture (and would collect, as it's too big to get in our car).  We're replacing our kitchen table and chairs as the table is sun damaged.  It's only three years old and it seems a shame to bin it when it's really only suffering from a bit of discoloration and the odd crack to the surface.  We live in the Glasgow area.

can't remember the name of the charity but one always advertises in the local paper in our area, so worth taking a look in the adds in the back pages.
they do collect, so makes life easy. the only thing you need to watch for is things like sofas as they have to have the fire safety label still on.    

a local homeless charity has a warehouse for furniture to help ex-homeless people start up when they get a place to live. may be worth asking your citizens advice if they know of any,   I would think a place the size of Glasgow would have similar, also our local hospice has a shop just for furniture.

Our local YMCA takes on old furniture and collects free of charge. Or the other option is Freecycle which has already been mentioned.

Have you tried asking your local council earl? If you ring them and tell them you have furniture too good for throwout and suitable for re-use they usually have a list of charities you can call, who will come and look at what you have, if they think they can use it they will then collect it from you. :-)

In my area the British Heart foundation have a shop that takes furniture etc. So it might be worthwhile speaking to your "favourite" charity and see if they have anything along these lines locally.

The Salvation Army take furniture. But contacting the council is a good idea as there are often smaller charities who may take it, for instance to help people set up home after a house-fire, or people moving into new accommodation after being homeless.

Another vote here for British Heart Foundation we equiped the kids flat from here and some of the stuff was great like Stag dining room suite ect. Better than I could have afforded at their age. Any a lovely bed that we strippeddown and re varnished all engraved will have pride of place in our new house.

Also freecycle, we used it a lot and freecycled 40% of our old house.
