My girl is recovering from c section done 21/5, she had a week of antibiotics that finished saturday, she had the stitches removed yest, she was really bright until yesterday evening, not lathargic just a bit tired and clingy, i put this down to maybe the a'b's giving her extra energy? She started having a discharge mucousy blood bright on Friday, i phoned the vet who re-assured me this was normal. Today she has just passed quite big blob, so i'm asking is this normal, how long is it normal for? After her last litter she did bleed on for a while? Is that relevant?

cant give you info on dogs after a c-section but after i had my c-section with my daughter i was loosing large clots for some time after but i never did with my normal births :)

Its probably just old blood from around the op site.  I wouldnt worry too much either at the mo.

Having a breed that is notorious for C-sections I think it sounds normal to be fair.  But get your vet to pop in and look her over if you are at all worried.  I would rather my vet say Jean you're wasting my time, than miss something.

My girls bleed for a long time after whelping, even with a self whelp, certainly for weeks, I find that perfectly normal.  But I never have stitches to take out after a section, they always use invisible mending, which I much prefer, as pups can't go catching nails on stitches.

Good point Jean, But maybe because there aren't any pups they chose this type of suture? It's late now, but i think tomorrow i shall check her temp. I thought that if she were feeding pups there would be discharge/bleed as her feeding would stimulate her womb to contract as normal. But apparently she has no maternal instinct as the pups died at 4 weeks, however has gone through mastitis and phantom pregnancy.

Poor girl - I didn't realise her circumstances, I do hope that she recovers well.
