I am looking to remove some of my photos from the computer onto another storage system to keep them safer. I thought about USB memory sticks but not sure what size to buy as dont know how many photos each size could hold - i know this does depend on what size the pitures are but a rough idea would be good. Was thinking about 8gb size.
The next thing that i looked at was an external hardrive but what is the difference with these and the memory sticks?

have got some photos already on CD's but there is some saying that data might be lost over years??

any help appreciated or what do others do with digital picutres? the old films that used get developed seem easier now as you sent the film off got them back and put in an album!  you can take so many digi pictures, upload them onto the pc but then they just sit there doing nothing and not being shown to anyone.

I would buy an external HD and make sure that the photos you would most hate to loose are stored in more than one place. You can buy storage on line which to date seems safe but you can never be totally sure even if they are professionally printed out, or you can use somewhere like flickr or photobucket that can be used free of charge.

uploading them to a site is a good idea but what about accessing them if you dont have internet, i was looking for a better way at home at having them safer.

External HD is better then than USB storage? the first is more expensive so want to get it right, any idea of size to buy?

I have mine on a usb stick.

hardrive every time....backed up onto dvd and seperate HD if important. Keep 3rd copy in fire/floodbroof container.
