I took my girl for a scan on monday she would of been 30 days from 1st mating 28 from 2nd, we saw 4 round blobs on the the screen but the vet said they were her guts, iv never seen guts on a scan before so dont know what they look like.
Does anyone know what guts look like on a scan? iv never used this vet for scanning before, they have said i can go back for another scan in a week if i wish but it will cost another £56, i always thought most vets offer a free scan 2nd time around? He didnt really spend much time scanning her, i dont mind paying the cost but was annoyed that he only spent around 3 mins scanning her.
Any help would be great.

No you don't get a free scan the 2nd time round or at least we don't, Sophie's pups looked like little black blobs at about the same date as you, the question really is how competent is your vet? Our vet knew it was pups straight away but they have done many scan's in the past so are quite skilled in that department.

You could always take her to another vet for a second opinion or wait another 2 weeks and start to see physical signs.

P.s. I haven't looked at enough scans to say iv seen guts in the pictures

no i havnt seen any scans that have shown guts on it, the scans ive had done have only ever shown pups like triona has said does this vet do many scans? could be that your girl is alittle later then you think maybe just a day or so and thats why they look like blobs another week and you may be able to see the pups better? x

Not as far as I can tell, all have grown normally, with good strong heart beats  ;-)

Thanks everyone, sharon thats what the blobs looked like on the scan but couldnt really see alot inside the blobs but he didnt spend too long scanning her, just said that was her guts and moved on. Im not sure how good they are at scanning, its a veterinary hospital i went too but have never used them for scans before, the vet i usually use for scans has left the surgery and i dont have alot of confidance in the other vets there.

I will wait a couple of weeks and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

You will know in a couple of weeks if she is expecting. Is is showing any signs of being in whelp?
I had a bitch scanned on Wednesday (day 27) and could see the pups heartbeats. My Vet didn't even charge me either.

Shes showing a few signs, but nothing major. This is a repeat mating from 2 years ago as she had all boys and i so want a girl from her. Oh well will just have to wait a couple of more weeks and hopefully will see some movement.

I like your scan Sharron.  When my girl was scanned, all you could see was the bladder, i can't see that on yours.  I thought I saw babies but that was apparently her guts.  Should her bladder have been empty.

Good luck with tour girl pepsi1.

i was told not to let my girls wee before scan ,like us it helps to have a full bladder x
