Not sure if this is posted in the right section but..........My shih-tzu is 10 yrs old and you hardly ever see her having a drink. She has always been like this.

She will drink from a puddle but hardly drinks from her water bowl. She must be getting enough fluid from somewhere otherwise she wouldn't have lived this long but is this normal.

My other Shih-tzu used to drinks gallons (not literally) but she was a bigger dog

if you want her to drink more during the summer months add a drop of goats milk to her water and offer it to her as a treat in a different bowl I do this to my dogs they drink the lot.

How do you feed her? She may not need much water if she is on a 'wet' diet. so long as she isn't dehydrated then I wouldn't worry too much.

well not suprrised if tap water...although full of good things like fluoraide good for teeth in it maybe for humans...it has a TASTE...strong..i can tell differences of different tap waters myself...your dog likes taste of natural water is my view ! GET SOME RAINWATER collector ? leave a plate out for it ? might do the trick !

I have one that is a very visible drinker - he drinks long, loud, and messily, leaving trails of water from bowl to    ...well as far as he can get!

The other is more discreet, much quieter, and much cleaner.  He also drinks much less, even taking their different weights into consideration.

Both prefer our home water to anyone elses and drink noticably less when we are away.  Awkward little toads :)  I'd say if your girl has always been like this then it's probably nothing to worry about.  A change in drinking habits would be of more concern.

Henry doesn't drink much when we are out, even if I've filled a bottle from the tap so it's his own water. Now he's on diuretics he drinks a bit more - but he prefers his water either fresh from the tap, or stale from a puddle - doesn't like it a few hours old in the bowl! :-p
