hope she pulls through the night. Keep trying you never know. will send hugs.

I'd be giving newborn kittens weighing around 3 oz that amount so yes, it does seem an extremely small amount for such a big puppy. Not much help probably, I know. Keeping everything crossed here.
Oh you poor thing , when was the last time she fed ? Is she eating her puppy food (or whatever you are weaning her with)? I didn't realise that FPS could affect them at this age?
As you know my pups are only a few days ahead of yous and the same breed and mum is only feeding them every 3/4 hours now , so don't understand why vet said feed her every two hours?
I have no advice to offer but please know that i am thinking of you and sending all the positive thoughts i can your way. Lucy x
thankyou all of you x
lucy shes not feed since lunch time :( she not eat anything ,im keeping her warm and ill try and get what milk in her i can ,i feel so helpless ,she not open her mouth to eat or drink.

white lilly, l am so sorry. As someone else said, l didn't think that puppies of that age could have FPS. At 5lbs in weight, she must be a really chunky pup. I would try her with a glucose solution, in between the milk feeds, to keep her hydrated. Also, what are her motions like? Is she constipated, loose or normal?
Tomorrow, if there is more than 1 vet in your practice, l would try another vet, 'cos at her age and size, there MUST be something wrong if she will not eat. Josie XX

> As someone else said, l didn't think that puppies of that age could have FPS
This is probably the most crucial time, most pups lost with FPS are around the 3week mark...
White Lilly, do you have any liver in your freezer, if not.. perhaps a neighbour or friend... Ideally it should be ox liver, but few people keep this.. either pigs or lambs liver if you can get hold of some
take a chunk of the liver, just a small piece, put it in a pot with a tiny amount of water, bring to the boil, and you will see the blood begin to run out.. remove this..with a syring if neccessary, allow to cool, and feed to the puppy.. I would go for around 3ml every hour for 24hours minimum..
I do hope she pulls through
i havnt got any and im here on my own so i carnt go out ,up till now we have had to in every day for mum to eat bits of it cooked ,i havnt seen her poo today but mum is still cleaning them so if i dont catch them at the time of them doing it i dont see any :( she just isnt very resposive when i touch her like the other 2 are :( ,im going to clean her myself now and see if i can get her to poo.
if she is still here in the morning i will get some liver and do that for how ever long it takes to get her right.
thankyou x

Crikey kayc, that's scary. I thought that it was usually about up to the 12/14 days old time that was the crucial time. To get them to, getting on for 4 weeks of age, and then for this to happen, well, it just doesn't bear thinking about. As to your liver recipe, l have heard of this before - somewhere on here, l think - with quite remarkable results. Maybe white lilly has a 24 hour supermarket close by, because they usually sell ox liver.

Is this the same pup that is having problems standing?
yes but today shes been walking around fine ? well this morning ? x

I wonder if her Mother DID accidently step on her, and damaged something internally? Would an xray be able to pick anything up?

I didnt know that she had been hurt.. I would be straight to the vet with her.. could be any number of things.. her leg may be fine now.. but there could be some internal injury :-(

Are they not already on solids? Mine started on Monday and are 3 weeks old today.
I would not have thought bottle feeding would be needed at this stage if all was normal, it would be lapping semi solids and feeding from Mum.
Have you recently wormed them, and how were they following that? Has her weight gain been steady or has it slowed?

Have only just caught up with your thread.
I had a puppy like this 4 years ago, he stopped eating from mum at 3 weeks, I had also just started to wean them. I took him to the vet he had a temp of 106, he was put on synulox. I took him home but could not get him to suckle from mum, he certainly would not take solids of any description. He also would not take a bottle. I fed him by syringe every 2 hours day and night, he took his first feed off his mum 48 hours later. I nursed him day and night. The vet did not think that he would make it. He did not lose weight over these days but did not put on any either, just sort of ticked over, if you know what I mean. He picked up gradually but would not eat solids, came off the antibiotics and 3 days later went back down with a temp again, back to the vets for a longer course of antibiotics 10 more days. When he came off them he did not develop a temp again, but now he still would not take solids. We kept him here as he looked so behind the other pups. Eventually he began eating solids at about 8 weeks, but only mushy porridge.
Now, he weighs around 40 kgs and is a successful show dog - do not give up yet.

I am really sorry to hear this but I still think this pup should see a vet and sooner rather than later, at this age things good and bad progress so quickly.

I never knew FPS hit at this age either, I wonder if there is some kind of neurological problem/muscular in this pup?

Hi White Lilly
Hope things are ok with the pup. My heart goes out to you
Hi , just wanted to say that i hope all is well this morning hun , thinking of you . Lucy x
How is everything this morning?
just got back from the vets ,i did take her last night too, she hasnt got a temp, they were wormed last wednesday over 3 days with pancur and was fine, shes feed from mum this morning at 4am :) but didnt eat any food i made for them she just had a lick ,im not going to give up on her theres no way! she had a poo at 6am and it was runny ,im wondering if she eat to much defrosted mince yesterday? and this gave her belly ache? shes sleeping at the min and looks alot better shes been walking around and playing with me and her mum and litter mates so fingers crossed shes going to be ok ,i saw a different vet and he couldnt find anything wrong!
she was bitting him LOL and fighting everything he did to her so he said thats a good sign.
its so true that pups go down hill so quickly and also turn the corner very quickly too thank god, ive had no sleep and my head is killing ,i have a chest infection but i will be keeping a very close eye on her ,but saying that i have from the second they were born. i will be happier when she eats more ,im going to keep mum out the way to to see what she takes 4h after her milk feed from mum.
thankyou all for your kind words xx...

white lilly, why not give kayc's recipe for ox liver go? It might stimulate her appetite, and you might be pleasantly surprised. I had never heard of this until recently, but l wish that l had known about it.Josie

Thats great news:) Good you are keeping her as well. when something like this happens and you nearly lose a pup its very difficult to let them go to someone else. You'll have a great bond with her.
Glad your heads better. Stress can cause awful migraines I know.

Do you know white lilly, l had a funny feeling that you might be keeping her LOL. I don't know if you show or not, but, if she were mine, her show/kennel name would be, "Candle in the Wind", 'cos she nearly snuffed it. I hope you are feeling a bit better today. Josie
Hi jaycee yes i show them ,i love that name but might be to long with my affix but i will check :) thankyou! ;-) x

Hi White Lilly, Just read your post, there's never a dull moment with this lark. This may or not be your last litter, famous last words. You've obviously not had an easy litter and you should be really proud of yourself and your girl. Hopefully you are taking care of yourself as this can be an extremely exhausting time. Let's just hope you have no more pitfalls. Best wishes from Terri and Maddie x
thankyou terri ,hows maddie? on the mend i hope x
the last litter we had here 6months ago was a nightmare too ,i just dont know whats happening ,i do everything to the letter and dont leave mum or pups till about 5weeks old then i go back to bed ,is there ever just to much worry and care? it sicknes me when people breed and havnt got a clue what there doing and just leave mum to it in another room dont feed her the right food or give any time to the pups and they all grow and just sell them, whats that all about? :(

I'm with you on that one, Maddie's first litter was my first too, i loved every minute of it, my favourite memory is calling them all for whatever reason, i just shouted boys and they all came running, and my husband said it was the most amazing welcome when he came from work at night. We took some fabulous photo's of them so still have them to look at. Maddie's good, got some discharge today, but vet says that's okay. She still has moments of being lost and looking for her puppies but she's certainly on the mend.
Glad to hear Maddies on the mend and you have got through it.
White-lilly so pleased your pup is on the mend. Sending hugs for her (and you of course lol).
im so pleased maddies doing good bless her ,these pups are starting to come to me when i say puppies :-) its lovely isnt it!x
thankyou sunshinex
