Just woke up to find our 13 year ols staggerng and stumbling. Till now quite healthy apart from lumps and bumps. Will get her to vets later but any thoughts. I wondered if it might be a stroke.

It is very distressing watching a dog doing this isn't it. I think we could all take guesses at what it could be, but really only the vet whom examines the dog will have any true idea. Fingers crossed that it is nothing to serious. I won't tell you not to worry to much, because I know it is impossible not to do so!

Thanks for the kind words. SShe would not eat her usual but has had some molk and scrambled egg so thats something positive. She is just so much quieter than she usually is first thing :-(

At least if you can get some fluids into her that should help. It could just be a combination of the heat and maybe an infection of some kind, so don't go thinking the worst just yet.

Have no advice i'm afraid because haven't been in this situation but just wanted to say i'll be thinking of you both and hope she picks up soon. I bet she'll be as right as rain in no time.xx

I wonder if she has a bit of heat stroke?
Hope you get on ok at the vet though. x
Obviously she needs to go to the vets, but just one thing that is easy to check and common in older dogs - check her eyes, if they are flickering side to side it is Vestibular Syndrome, a common cause of staggering and often mistaken for a stroke.

Although I think it may well be Vestibular Syndrome the flickering eyes are not always present. If it is this then it is not to difficult to treat so good luck at the vets and I hope she is better soon.
Hi Sue
So sorry to hear this, i do hope Riva is ok. Special love and hugs from Echo. xx

Vet checked her and apart from 'weakness' at back could find no obvious cause. She felt if she got worse in next few days wel......
Gave her Valium and Rimadyl for infl;ammation and to relax muscle as could be some sort of spasm. An hour later she is fine again. Guess I just have to see what develops.
Fingers crossed she is ok. Love to all.
