there doesnt seem to be any info on how to show a weimaraner .Different dogs are shown in different ways and there is only so much knowledge you can absorb at actual shows .All the ring craft groups I have been to either have no weimars or inexperienced handlers,that also need help ! Is there no-one ,highly experienced that has a few tips for us novice enthusiasts ?

depending on which area you live in there may be a breeder that goes to a ring craft near you. Weimaraners are normally "stacked" the best way to practise is in front of a mirror use a picture of a weimaraner to match the mirror view not the side you can see as it looks very different sometimes and the side that matters is the judges view. Most people hold their dogs head by gripping (hanging on tightly for dear life!!!) underneath the jaw line with some excess skin and the fingers between the two bones. but by using a photo and mirror you are able to practise to where the feet need to be, to enhance the profile to its best. Generally people use a slip lead this can be leather, rope or chain as long as it is comfy to hold and long enough to place behind the shoulders when stacked. let me know if this helps!

Can you not ask the breeder of your dog (assuming that you already have a dog, that is)?

I too have weims and am about to show my pup for the first time this weekend I attend ringcraft on a weekly basis, it is good but like you say they may not be weim people and there are lots of tricks that experienced weim people have up their sleeve ;-)

If you can spend some time with your breeder then ideal, I spent a whole afternoon with my breeder talking, learning and practising and I learn't more in one afternoon from her than I have by attending ringcraft for the past few weeks. We also keep in touch and I often ask her questions which she is more than happy to help out with, she will also be there for my first show to give me a few handy hints.

Patsy Hollings has a very good book out called The Essential Weimaraner, she talks about numerous things including showing, I've had the book for about 4 years now and I still refer to it.
