Tess is 3 years old, and these last couple of days she has not had 1 hard poo, she has had diarrhea, waking me up in the middle of the night to let her out. I came home from work today and what a mess! To say the least! She had also been sick and i saw some sort of red stuff on the floor (guessing its blood) but not sure how that came up which end i mean...

She is 3 years old, she seems herself, isnt depressed, she is still after her ball constantly (typical collie!) and is walking fine.

We are going to try her for 24 hr off her food and just give her water and hope that clears her out, our neighbour is going to let her out during the day also... and if she doesnt clear up take her to the vets... what does everyone think, has anyone experienced this? Could it be this sudden heat wave?

My yorkie is fine! Little toughie!! Hope someone can advise....

Could be just the heat.

I know heat can upset the tum, but I must admit that if one of my dogs was passing blood I would be down the vets straight away.

Didn't see that bit, but poster did say that she's not sure whether it was  blood also.

Sounds like more than just heat to me.  I know each dog is different and everyones style of management differs too but in my dogs I'd interpret these signs as more serious than just a tummy upset.   The last resort would have been what you came home to - that would have been the trigger to go to the vets this evening.

I think I'd also be looking to take the day off tomorrow, or go in later and come home earlier - although I'm not very good at trusting others to read the signs terribly well :)  I do hope it's nothing for you to worry about

I'd be up the vet by now too.  Any sickness/poops that goes on for longer than a day in his house has a vet checkup :)

Maybe she has been drinking dirty water etc which can carry lots of germs in this warm weather and she has picked up a bug.

Hope she is ok.

Thanks guys, I did ring the vet and they had no appointments last night and they said to try her off food, like i thought and then give her just boiled rice after, and if she isnt better in a couple of days, to bring her in, so thats what ill do, given the neighbour a key so she can let her out today for me and she hasnt had any food up to now, so hopefully she will come around but if not ill be definately taking her to the vets, its not worth it not too

Alan got up this morning (he gets up before me i get a bit of a lie in he he) and he said there was a small bit downstairs, but there was a hard one too... but he said he isnt sure if sparky has just joined in!! but i am not convinced as yesterday when i got home there was nothing there from sparky, so hopefully it will be hers

I wish sometimes I could just ask them what was wrong and they could reply, wouldnt shut them up though i bet!!

I rely a lot on temp if sick/ upset tum and no temp I starve and give extra fluids or lectade (handy to always have in) if a temp up then there is some kind of infection and a vet visit is required.
following day I give mashed potato and a bit of white fish and some arrowroot bis before bed.

As long as dog has a good fluid intake I wouldnt be too worried .
