Has anyone heard of a paired entrance/access up to property?  Is there a difference between shared access and paired access?  Legally does it mean the same thing?  I.e. shared access.

To cut a long story short, my next door neighbour is building a house and was trying to construct the entrance (lane) onto our property for access and turn it into shared access.   After challenge, he has now gone back to planning and put in an application for a paired entrance/access.

Don't know about the terminology but had something similar at a previous house which was last but one in a close. The road ended where our driveway began & this led on to neighbours property. We owned all this drive (so had to maintain it) and give the neighbour in the end house access. The driveway was only a car width so all the parents picking up kids ( she was a childminder) used our drive to reverse in & our front lawn always had tyre marks on it, then they acquired some land to the side & built an 8 car garage and a bungalow so we had lorries & vans rumbling through spilling sand/oil etc. One tradesman blocked my OH from leaving, was asked to move his vehicle & ignored him so hubby shunted him out the way with his van. NOT a happy situation & I think you should get some legal advice to avoid ending up with something like us!

What a horrible situation, WS. :-(  Yeah, we're taking it to court; our lane is used for agricultural purposes only leading up to farmland.  This new application for a paired entrance threw me as I didn't know what a paired entrance was and neither did planning.  From the map, it would seem that it's now going to be two lanes coming towards the road alongside each other and then merge about 15 metres from the road into one.  So 15 metres will be open plan with the remainder separated by a hedge if you know what I mean.  There always was a hedge on the legal boundary from the road until neighbour decided to remove it without speaking to the landowners but it will means I can't reinstate my hedge for the first 15 metres, which is what I want to do.  I want the legal boundary restored and my neighbour can do what he wants on his side but I think they are using my access to get round planning.

No not the same paired is two running alongside each other, each one owned by a seperate entity, Shared is that usually 1 access which both houses have right of way over.
