- By Julie Hill [gb] Date 21.05.10 20:14 UTC
If anyone in the UK is doing disc dogs (frisbee) I'd love to hear from you. I'm working on an article on how to get started in the sport so if you or anyone you know does disc dogs please let me know.

Thanks,

Julie x

well i just received one..a dog one..and am not pleased with it...when it lands on one side it is curved and difficult to pick up by my pup ! upside down is ok...so ? she is not very keen on it so far. and i can't throw it to land side up easy to get hold of. strange design. maybe bigger dogs manage it better.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. My dog (Labrador) likes to chase one, but he seems not to like the feel of it in his mouth. He can't catch one at all - but then I'm not the best frisbee thrower in the world! :)
You can't beat a tennis ball as far as my dog's concerned. xx

ooh... a radio station for dogs...dachshund on ! ooh...this is good stuff ! now this tennis ball thing...my pup loves them too. and ? oooh you will LOVE this...i took time to go fin the literature i got on paper for my pup...wish breeder would put it on their website...got it the day i collected her...so ? well was more interested in doing everything WRONG obviously than reading 5 pages of don't do this and that stuff !! LOL ! anyhows...i DID read it...and saw...NON to TENNIS BALLS for PUPS noted...and went back to see exactly WHY ?

they are covered in abrasive stuff that is bad for the pup teeth ! and give intestinal problems if ingested !

sigh sigh sigh...well i saw a photo on breeder webstie showing a brother of hers with tennis ball in his mouth...so i am not the only one to have ignored that...but...the VET gave me a rubber ball that illuminates when it hits the ground....lol...wait for this...

PUP was ALARMED and NOT interested in this flashing lights thing !!! i did try...vet said she might chew it...is soft rubber...sigh sigh...well i think it is lost somewhere around here in the mess...but pup not missing it or she would have found it and nested it...like she does the tennis balls.

sigh. i tend to think probably truth in this tennis ball qualities not good for tummy or teeth...so ? where to get a specific load of ...yes more than 1 needed....balls like that for dogs that will not be chewed to pieces in a few days ?

so ? just watch they dont chew the things i say...she tends not to...is keen ot have it thrown rather than chew this tennis ball stuff.

but anyhows...share the info !!! whatever you think is great ...ends up debunked one day hey !

LOL...anyhows...i am a fast re-checker i say...split seconds...and i type 120 words per minute swiss typing diploma passed blind touch typing in the uk years back...thought it would be useful...and it is...MEN are USELESS at keyboard skills...NEED that kind of training i say...i get peed off with their slowness in business on email...passons...never mind that...

to answer the point...i was inspired about frisbee from this Polish forum dog picture...a member there...does frisbee...so i ordered one for my pup !!! LOL!!! the POWER of PICTURES hey !!!

That's a gorgeous Belgian Shepherd in those photos. I do like them but I think they'd be too active a breed for me. I appreciart a dog that will enjoy its excercise and then chill with me for a while. :)

The only dangerous thing I've come across with tennis balls is if the dog chews it till it comes apart/open and then swallows it. It squashes fairly flat to be swallowed, but once it's in the stomach it pops back up into a ball again and has to be removed surgically Not nice. I've heard of a Boxer who that happened to. Thankfully Buddy likes to chase a tennis ball rather than chew it, and I never leave them lying around the house anyway.

Balls are a minefield in some ways - you also have to make sure they're the right size for the dog's mouth. Too small and they might lodge in the throat. Doesn't bare thinking about does it?

As well as our Lab we have a Bichon - she loves to chase and run to a ball, but just will not retrieve it! Ah well, each to his own. :)

P.S. Hope you enjoyed the Dachshund profile!

I just checked you website out - Fee Noire is so cute. My daughter (who is 14) loves him! The photos of him and the cat are lovely. We have 2 dogs and two cats, and they have bonded really well - the cats are only 8 months old now, and came as very young kittens. The Lab tends to open one eye at them and try to ignore them, but the Bichon desperately wants to play with them but just can't keep up!

hija julie and kids, well am delighted the kids like my pup pics too ! lol...i did not intend the site for anything but me and my friends to know what i am up to...and a record of our dvelopment...one forgets many key moments...does not know the whys often..a website  ? with pics and music to listen to whilst thinking helps me...of coures i did nto think of things like language moderation much ...is a natural outpouring of thought process...stream of consciousnesss....so ? that is how i think...the one or 2 really BAD words i did edit out...were written in a temper occasionally...directed at unspecified persons i add...but i thought...hey some kids in WAMIZ forum FRANCE are lookiung at this website to see pup and rabbits...so ? just make a concession then for the couple of very strong words on the website they know but does not look good coming from an ADULT ! me !!! LOL ! not that THEY think i am an adult ! i am very FRENCH...meaning CHILDISH !!!! LOL !!!

the belgian breed issue ? well i hestitate to say other than what you say...but...they ARE manageable dogs i say...and DO REST when YOU REST...in the house ? the pup when i am on laptop...jsut sleeps or chew quietly at my feet...ALWAYS in the same room...the breed LIKES bieng WITH people...and is hyper OUTSIDE when let out...and i can vouch for that...now i have seen pics of CHEWED UP HOUSES...cables...papers...of other belgian pups...and ? well LOOK at my pics ! she chews loose papers, toys, bones, drags now my tshirt i want to put on around to me the nests etc...but my FORBIDDEN by me cables and anything i say NO to her for if caught in the act of grabbing it in her teeth ? no ! she does NOT insist on those things ! leaves them alone ! i cant see a problem with her at all for that.

this breed....seems to ADORE kids...my pup does...and is IDEAL for running with the lazy youngsters nowadays i say...on bikes even ! when adult of course...not as pup.

they are guard dogs in military uses...but with kids ? my pup has not even LOOKEd to nip a child...licks them...she has guard tendencies though...and her growl to other dogs seen once in a parc was horrible at 9 weeks old...she could be VICIOUS for sure...turned on ME once in a bad arguement we had....just the once...we were both DEVASTATED by it for hours afterwards i add..

my local grocer was astonished when i said i was getting a BELGIAN pup...said but those are guard dogs !!! was horrified ! i thought...oh ? but i like that lovely fluffy black elegant looking dog things i saw years ago in Brum sutton parc ! they were fast agile beautiful happy dogs ! i thought they looked like black wolves ! but no yellow harsh eyes ! sweet dark eyes !

and he has SEEN and TOUCHED the EVIDENCE when he serves me outside his shop the food i buy there ! stroked her even ! she adores him ! is nice to him ! does not LISTEN to anyone else but me i add...ignores ANY commands from others...that upsets people i add here...strangers LIKE to try and give orders to other people's dogs...sigh...the KIDS here have more sense for that i say ! it is DANGEROUS to give strangers dogs ordrers ! confuses the dogs i say ! i NEVER do that to other dogs !

oh and i LOVE dachshunds...my gran had one...2 in fact...what CLEVER active dogs they are...they STARE at you hard in the eyes just like my Belgian does...in Vienna...LOADS of them in PAIRS with women out walking...a very common sight...and DO NOT OFFEND THEM ! the dogs that is ! if you STEP on one ! you will be TOLD by them and the owners...that is not acceptable !! LOL !!! ooh...confident little rats i call them there...to annoy the owners...they are very PROUD of their dachshunds in Vienna parcs where they pooh everywhere in sight !! or did years back...have not been tehre a many years...times change

a few points..

1. special tennis balls exist for dogs. cost in France 3.15 euros per ball...have to buy in pairs of course so lets say 6.30 euros.

2. i got a CAR SEAT BELT thing for pup. sigh. not saying WHEN i will MANAGE to get her onto that...i did say...attached to collar ? will her neck break in a jolt due to that thing attached to collar ? am suspicious..

> i got a CAR SEAT BELT thing for pup. sigh. not saying WHEN i will MANAGE to get her onto that...i did say...attached to collar ? will her neck break in a jolt due to that thing attached to collar ?

No, because it's been explained (with an image link) on your other thread that it attaches to a harness, not her collar.
- By black fairy [fr] Date 24.05.10 12:44 UTC Edited 24.05.10 12:56 UTC
i am cross as yes i do recall that...and i said that in shop...now i must complain to shop for sure...he said COLLAR is FINE ! amazing hey...well I AM HERE TO EDUCATE THEM !!! LOL !!! JJ included will be quoted TODAY IN FRANCE !! not as bonney tyler sang...LOST IN FRANCE ! we will put them right ! just imagine ! other dog owners buying that and putting it to collars !!! that IS what i was told to do !!!

just off the phone...they hve harnesses...but ? i may need several as she gorws...sigh...up to 40 euros a harness !! horror ! i will see if now there is an adjustable one that will last til full grown...60 cm high she will get to...sigh...off i go again...it is DARNED HOT in France...i suffer from it like my pup ! we stay in the shade...both head for that simultaneously when out...great synchronisation that i say ! 2 of same mind !

I thank all members of Champdogs who have followed my lengthy messages,,,and helped me avoid what could have been a lethal accident and death to my pup simply if i had not been to this forum and bought what was said was adequate to me in a local shop here in France regarding this car safety issue. I assure you, I questioned this claim that a COLLAR was enough to attach this seat belt clip on to...several times talking of her neck that it seemed at risk to me if i slammed the brakes suddenly and she was jolted and the thing snapped her neck...i say...int hat case ? better NOT to have ANY seat belt attachment on at all ! getting THROWN in the car would have given her a better chance of survival than with  that on ! ...but...i WILL get a SAFETY HARNESS that this attachment can be attached to yes. A COLLAR ATTACHED BY A LEAD CLIP ON TO SEAT BELT IS DANGEREUSE !! NEVER TIE A COLLAR TO A FIXED POINT IN A CAR TO A DOG !!!

One cannot be too careful...when taking advice...is the moral of this story...and i suggest...a very important lesson for us all...NEVER accept things blindly...THINK around what is said...SHOP EXPERT or ANY EXPERT ! people make mistakes...have bad days...are not bothered...just want to make a buck...all sorts...but my misgivings of instinct call it AND BASED ON MEMORY of what i had read HERE about this ENORMOUSLY IMPORTANT LIFE AND DEATH MATTER TO MY PUPPY !!! helped me...save her life i do believe if i had put that thing on.

AND please note...that description TENNIS BALLS for dogs...does not mean the same size as a TENNIS BALL...the ones i got ? are TOO LARGE for my pup ! another lesson to learn...but i pass it on...for others to be more wary...always be wary...of everyone and everything...sad statement...but safer rather than sorry is the moral hey. cheers.

We buy Chukit flying squirrels from USa and the BC loves it, a special dog frisbee that can always be picked up. The plastic normal shaped ones do not work so good for Jake.

I "drowned" frisbee on holiday last week!!! but we always buy in pairs so we have another two ready for use.
