Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Odd Behaviour After Missing

I have a bitch who missed when mated this time round. She is not a maiden bitch she has had a litter before and we had a good mating but unfortunately for the first time for me she missed.

The pups would have been due this week and I have seen a little nesting type behaviour although I don't think she is actually phantoming. My query is that she has started humping my male dogs and her mother which is something she only does when she is in season. Has anyone any idea what may be going on?

Many thanks
Jill

Are you 100% sure that she has missed? ie, have you had her x-rayed to be certain. Pups (or one pup anyway ;-) ) can be missed in a scan on occasion and she may still be pregnant. Her hormones could also be telling her that she is pregnant, but she hasn't got as far as having her non-existant pups and this behaviour could be part of that process.

Yes 100% sure she is empty sadly. I guess its just that her hormones are all over the place.

Well I have a bitch who was due two weeks ago and missed and she is also Mrs humpy, though no nesting.

She is very aroused at the fact her Mum has just had babies and am sure would Love to take over.

Thanks Barbara so that's two Mrs Humpies. At least I now its not just my bitch. I shall try to keep her brain occupied to distract her as her father is turning into Mr. Grumpy when she keeps climbing aboard!!!
