Topic Dog Boards / General / The John Paul Massey case

We all remember the awful case of another young child sadly being killed by a dog :(

Well here is an update with regard to the owner (Uncle of said child) of the dog.

Only "could face jail"?! The charges for breeding illegal dogs, and dog fighting, need to be WAY more severe IMO. :-(

It is SUCH a strange case. If a 2 year old wakes up at midnight and says he is hungry, what does a normal responsible adult do? Offer some milk perhaps, not go and fetch a packet of crisps. If that two year old then goes back to sleep before the crisps are eaten, would you open the packet and feed them to the DOG rather than put them away again? Very weird.
Such a tragic case but could all have been prevented as usually is the case...... :(

Story just all sounds very weird to me,  the other dog died soon after after an accident as well!

What about the other 2 dogs killing the third

Very very bizarre, the dogs killed the 3rd dog?, they were pitbulls (apparently illegal in this country) that they were breeding and yes it seems bizarre to feed the crisps to the dog.
I am not saying that if my brother's dog killed one of my children I would blame him for it but I do find it odd that the mother would support him when the dog in question was illegal which he would have been well aware of!

Yes it does sound very odd, possibly a made up story if the real truth is worse.  Also I may be wrong but if a child had just woken up then surely they would have been in a bedroom?  Why would you take the dog with you into the area the child is sleeping in?

Sounds very sus that the other dog was knocked down and killed not long after, I maybe cynical but I doubt that was an accident.

4 month sentence, better than nothing I suppose and doubt it will teach anyone of like mind a lesson.

At the end of our local news report on this case the reporter said that the Granny is now being charged with owning a dangerous dog ( i think - she is certainly being charged with something  ) so it is not over  yet .

Think it's a hard one.  He shouldn't have an illegal breed but he was away inthe army at the time and I think it's right that the grandma is also charged as she was in charge of the dogs at the time.

Still find some of the story strange though.  No help to the young boy but let's hope it teaches some a lesson???

Was this the case in Liverpool? I don't know if I've got the right one but that was vwery odd. I thought I'd read somewhere that the dog concerned was used to very high levels of activity on a daily basis, then the owner went away and the grandmother didn't exercise it and allowed it to sleep in the house, despite it having a purpose built kennel in the garden?? Why was the child up and about in the middle of the night?? Why would you allow a poorly socialised animal contact with something as precious as a child?? Even my lovely dog is crated securely over night.. :( :( very sad, all of these cases :( :(
