My old square monitor died so now have a new letterbox 22 inch one, but what do I set it to to get pictures in the correct proportions.

All the settings I try and the dogs look like Bassets!!!!!

How do I get correct proportions????

Mine is set to 1440X900 but images should retain there correct ratio I think what ever you set it to. What is the recommended setting, think I looked on the manufactures web site to find mine but it may be in the hand book or download.

To change the subject are you going tomorrow?

Nope, didn't enter as pups due, and we ended up with one born at home, no progress, Oxytocin did not help, so a C section for the other four, spayed while at it.

Sorry Brainless but there's nothing wrong with Bassets!!!!!!!

Seem to remember that when I was forced from my old square screen I had trouble with the basset look too, sure if you get the setting right it will be ok. What make is your new monitor.

Sorry to hear about your whelping problems, which bitch was this? Bet you were hoping for more than 5 as I seem to remember your other bitch missed. Often wonder why it seems puppy farmers can produce litter after litter and those who are doing everything they can to get it right have the sort of problems they do.

It's  Hewlett Packard.

Re pups, Yes have had to let a lot of people down with one missing and the other having a smallish litter and just one male, worst thing is that there aren't many litters around and those that are due are very booked up.

Yep, not really the time to be looking for a pup. Will see if I can find out something about your monitor.

There seems to be loads of info on the Hewlett Packard site but it would seem you need to know your model number as they seem to do loads and loads of different monitors. However if you go onto the UK site you may well find the info and help you need.

Seems I can't do the recommended resolution (1920 x 1080, mine will only go up to 1600 x 1200), so I have had to make the picture square again by using Custom Scaling, fit to Aspect Ratio, which means that I have a square picture within the letterbox, but at least it all looks right, even if I have two 3 inch black bans either side.

Have you tried 1440 x900 that gives a correct ratio on my 22" but mine is a wide-screen not the exaggerated slit type. Have to say I would far rather have the old square type it is far more suited to people wishing to do work with graphics but it seems most people are wishing to play games and watch video so I do not think we will ever get the format that suits us again.

Hope Mum and pups are doing OK

Nope that one isn't supported by my graphics card either, so looks like my current 1280 x 1024 with the aspect ratio preserved as above is the only option, giving me square image with wasted space either side.

I think I am still probably getting roughly similar size picture to that on my 17 inch square monitor.  Actually just measured and it does :)

I suppose it will work when I eventually upgrade to a new PC, as this one is coming up for 5 years old and computer guy says it is like Porsche with a  1600 engine, the processor isn't Man enough for the upgrades it has had.

Thing is I am not even using 20% of my hard drive memory.

You may well be right, if the graphics card is not up to the monitor you will not be able to get the best from it. You could change the graphic card but then you may find that the processor was not up to the card you wished to fit.

Wish I only used 20% of my hard drives I am forever adding external drives with loads more GB, think the next will be a 2 TB
