I'm looking to change my car and looking at someone along the lines of a Berlingo style.

If any of you have one of these would you mind measuring your boot and letting me know if my car crate will fit.

The crate is 45" wide, 36" tall and 36" deep.

Also can you let me know about fuel consumption and road tax excise

Thanks

Jill

Hi Jill, your crate will not fit the Berlingo Multispace (Largest Berlingo)  The luggage space is exactly 45 inches.. but.. the overhang clips for the pull out cover are a a few mm.. bringing the available width down to 44.5inches..

I have a 42" double crate in mine,

Fuel consumption is good.. I havent worked out MPG, but £10 goes roughly 120miles (Diesel)  Low emmissions road tax.. so really good.. and so is insurance..

One of the people at training club has just got a Renault Kangoo, looks like there's plenty of space for crate etc.

Gosh kayc wish my Berlingo van did as well on MPG and also had the lower tax, annoys me that it's the same size as the car but without windows and I have to pay the same tax as a large van!!

Just been & measured my Berlingo, agree that 45 wide would be very tight but may just go, hight is at least 42" but with back seats up floor depth is 32 but only 23 from tailgate to top of seat due to angle of seat back, with seat(s) folded there is acres of space. They fold split 2/3 + 1/3. tax I think is £130, If you are looking at 2nd hand you need the 2 ltr HDi- which is turbo NOT the 1.9 Forte, as the HDi has miles better fuel econ and also a better top speed than the 1.9.
I have a 'hampster baskets' crate and had to 'shrink it buy 2" to fit in space. I also fitted an 'extention' to make it taller as had limited hight in old car and when we put crate in Berlingo which is taller Zuma sulked like mad as he couldn't see over top of seats or look out of the windows :-D

I got rid of my 18month old Zafira and got the Berlingo.. mainly for the extra width space, and am delighted with it, I get around 10/15mile extra for my tenner,on long journeys it makes a heck of a difference...  insurance slightly cheaper, and road tax cheaper.. I wasn't too keen on the aesthetic of it when I first looked at it, but its grown on me

I have just changed my VW Passat for a VW Sharan and am delighted with it. 48 ish MPG (Deisel) on a long run and loads of space for three Bernese in the back even with the back seats up and working. We looked at the Berlingo but on the whole decided the Sharan was better value. Hope you find something that will suit your needs soon.

Just nipped out to get a tape on it and 45 " wide is a push but you could get a 45" wide cage in longways with no trouble...just need an end gate on it!! and depending on the length of the cage lots of room at the side for "Stuff"

thanks everyone.

Will get my car cleaned up and pop down to my citroen dealer and see if they will try it.  It tapers at the top so might fit.

Just been looking for a new car and had a similar "shopping list" to you, some I decided against on the basis that the trim level/comfort was very basic - just a van with more windows and seats, didn't look too comfy for long motorway trips.  I also looked at the Mercedes A class (have had my present one for almost 10 years and it has been wonderful) but they have reconfigured the way the rear seats fold so not so much room in the back as my old model so show cruiser would not fit standing up, same problem with most of those on the list too, but while looking at the Kangoo (didn't like it) the garage showed me a Scenic, and it was great!  Loads of space in the back, show cruiser can stand up (folded) which makes getting in and out easier, I haven't kept my details of the various dimensions etc, but the Scenic had pretty much the best height of all that bunch, apart, I think, from the Doblo.

I have a Doblo, its ace. The cage I have fitted in the boot (with sloping back) I beleive came from a Belingo.
