Hi, has anyone recently bought a newfoundland puppy from coventry?
- By ShaynLola Date 29.04.10 08:33 UTC
Hi

Sorry, don't know anyone who has bought  newfie in that area but I remember your previous post about your puppy who was very small for the age she was supposed to be. I'm guessing from the title of your post that the breeder is not a reputable one?   How is your puppy doing now?

If you want to send me a PM with the name of the breeder, I can ask around my Newfie friends to see if anyone knows anything about them?

Also worth contacting the Newfoundland Breed clubs to give them a heads up so they can warn other people.

I seriously doubt this will be a club member, as such people care about their reputations among their peers.

Sadly the other kind answer to no-one and have no good reputation to worry about.

You could join facebook and send Steve Walker Hanningfield Newfi's a message he might be able to help. I don't know if he is on champdogs.

I have been reading your other thread. Have you contacted the kennel club re your puppy? They will be able to check if registration has been applied for and also check health test results. Hope everything is ok and puppy had clean bill of health from vet

I know its not much help to you but could you not complain on the epupz website and see if you can get the breeder banned from advertising on the site if you still havent recieved Kc Paper work and insurance and puppy being very small, i cant see why they shouldn't ban them.

However Iv tried to get people taken off before when they were breeding a large breed bitch on consecutive seasons at 11/12 months of age, allas the add wasn't pulled and there is another add for the same bitch (2 years old now on puppy 26).

If they are puppy farmers im not saying they are but... could you not contact the local dog warden and get him to poke in a head or the RSPCA I do know they don't like under aged puppies leaving the home and would surly take up the lead.

Epupz never pull breeders off their site. I think most breed clubs have tried contacting Epupz but they have like the Flatcoat Society never had a reply from them.

The RSPCA would not deal with this, as they see all breeders as being much the same and as such they would not see this as a problem. I couldn't even get them to visit a puppy farm where I knew there were starving dogs! If there is a cruelty issue, then contact the police, as they will go and investigate.

Just read up on your previous posts.  I do hope this breeder is true to their word but if not.

Keep all documentation/ Correspondence. Contact the breeder and request all documentation asap, If you get no joy from this breeder.
Contact the Newfoundland Breed clubs and the KC to see if they know of this breeder, if they do then maybe they can help. If they do not know then they are pre-warned of this breeder.

Again keep all documentation/ Correspondence.

Put an official complaint to Epupz and trading standards, contact your local dog warden license and enforcement officer to see if they know this breeder if they do not then put a official complaint against them, I would do all this by phone, letter, email - again keeping all correspondence.

If you still receive no joy contact the tax office tell them the persons selling and let them investigate, sometimes the only way people learn is by hitting the bank balance.

when i was still nieve about good breeders and buying pups ect, i bought a pup from a person who was breeding pups from a bitch every season she had, the pups and mum were lcked in a back room of a pub to fend for them selves, the mother was then removed from the pups at 4 weeks old so she could get ready for her next litter, the pups were then fed puppy milk and fed solid food from one bowl in the corner of the room ONCE a day, i ended up picking my very tiny, under weight pup up at age 5 weeks old, the ONLY reason i removed this pup at this age was that id honestly felt that it was in the pups best interest, i didnt feel that it would have lived another week in those conditions, i reported this breeder to epupz and the rspca, epups woudnt do anything without proof from the rspca which i didnt have, but i have found out from a member of my breed club that these people have had a bitch removed from them by the rspca, my pup is now 10 months old and is short for his age and really dont know if he will grow to the breed standard hight

some people just shouldnt own dogs full stop never mind breed from them!!

I agree the RSPCA would not deal with a case like this.

WOW Polly that is disgusting!! And recently they stated these are the types of cases that they wished only to deal with. Shame on them...

Hi, thanks everybody for your responce, i have recieved papers thankgod, but the breeder or breeders of these pups as there is a few working together are still puppy farming as i found out after by phoning the k.c up that the mother had ad a litter every 7 months which is disgusting cant imagine what torture she is put through. My keisha is under weight for her bred but she will eventually catch up with the right diet. I have contacted there council and are sending someone round but as there 3 different addresses not sure if anything will happen. She still has 3 bitch puppies advertised on epupz and pets4homes they should be banned from owning dogs never mind breeding!

It would be even better if you could contact the breed clubs, or the breeds rescue, they may have people in the area who would perhaps help follow up bad breeders exploiting their breed, having more of an interest than then Kennel club alone.

Several different organisations/people working together can often achieve more.

I found out about this place because my daughter wanted a springer spaniel puppy. It was a cold wet October evening when she went to view the pups. They were in a stable with their mother, there were three pups. The place stank you smell it before you got there. there were what appeared to be the remains of dead pups in the back of the shed. The ones still alive were all skin and bone.
My daughter asked what the dogs were fed on and she was told "We don't mollycoddle our dogs, they a rabbit between them once a day. We just throw the rabbit over the door and then let them sort it out".So my daughter bought the smallest and weakest pup and we took it straight to my son-in-law who is a Dr. of veterinary medicine. He was appalled at the state of the pup and took measurements and photographs incase the RSPCA decided to prosecute the breeder. The pup also had a large lump on one side which we were told was probably due to being kicked.
So I drove to the local RSPCA offices and believe it or not they would not even come out of the offices to look at the puppy! So I had to make a real scene when some visitors came out and then somebody finally came out the office. The girl who came out came to my car an I showed her the pup who was supposed to be 6 months old. He was so thin if I put the tip of my index finger to my thumb tip it fitted around his neck! The reaction was, "How do I know you haven't done that to the pup?" So I pointed to my large sleek flatcoat and said "Do you really think I would starve one dog and not the other?" Anyway she then said "You should have left it there reported it to us and then if you found out it was dead you could report it to us and we could go and have a look" I then pointed out there were other dogs in the same condition and dead pups there, but she was not interested. Her next words were "So I suppose you have come here to dump it on us then?"
Needless to say I do not remember the drive home, I was simply seeing red! I was so angry... after I had cooled off a little I decided to ring the KC, and although the pup was not registered with them, they advised me to contact the police as they had a duty to investigate cruelty. Thankfully this is what I did and the police went down and sorted it out. The following week the RSPCA turned up on my daughters doorstep as a neighbour had reported that she had a starving spaniel! The policeman who came with them was the one we had reported the breeder to the week before, so he knew all about the case. I dread to think what would have happened otherwise I suspect they would have seized the dog and prosecuted us!
Until that happened I would donate to collectors on behalf of the RSPCA and would attend events hosted by the local supporters branch of the RSPCA. Now I won't have anything to do with them. I think their anti dog fighting units are the only thing left of the organisation worth bothering with.
Sad to say this is not the only time I have reported something which I have come across in the course of my work and they have chosen to do nothing.

Polly reading enraged me with anger I can imagine how you all must have felt.

I phoned them about a bird once. I put key in the lock to open the door, as I turned the key a kamikaze bird flew into the wall at such a speed, it frightened me silly and the poor thing was stunned. I found an old shoe box made some holes then contacted the RSPCA for help and I was told to find a brick, hit it on the head as it would be kind quick death. I was so shocked at the woman's attitude I put the phone down got the yellow pages and phoned around.  Found a man near me that did volunteer work and took it to him, one week later he telephoned me and asked if I would like to see it being released so I went and watched. He told me all the bird needed was rest in a quiet place and lots of food.

The next time I contacted them was about a bad breeder selling very sick pup and they did not care, they did not give any advice. I was told it was difficult to prove so in temper I screamed down the phone the vet clinic name said talk to the vet better still pull your finger out your behind and go see for yourself how sick the pup is. The woman said they could do nothing as it was receiving veterinary care, I was in tears and she showed no compassion at all.

I now refuse to give anything to the RSPCA. In my opinion if the RSPCA wish to be police like, they should also be held accountable like the metropolitan police force if they do not do the job they profess they are supposed to be doing.

I so hope your daughter's dog is ok now.

Sadly, and this is not a critisism of you, the more people who go and buy a pup and rescue it from them the more puppies they will produce.
I know you won't want to do this but you may be better to return the pup to them (who knows what health issues you may face later) and join a waiting list for a breed club registered breeder who health checks their dogs before mating and has the health of their own as well as your future dogs at heart

Yes he is fine now, and more to the point turned out to be one of the best working spaniels I have ever had! My daughter trained him but didn't have time to work him so I took him out with me.

Polly I am so pleased to hear, just shows you in the right people's hands what can be done.

Worth phoning or writing to HMRC (the tax office) with details of her address(es) and the advertisements...the Inland Revenue is always interested when people are making money and not declaring it ....as are the Benefits Offices - just in case!

Having tax inspectors and fraud investigators around might just stop some of these backyard breeders ...after all, Al Capone was jailed for tax evasion, not murder and extortion!!
