> And recently they stated these are the types of cases that they wished only to deal with. Shame on them...
I found out about this place because my daughter wanted a springer spaniel puppy. It was a cold wet October evening when she went to view the pups. They were in a stable with their mother, there were three pups. The place stank you smell it before you got there. there were what appeared to be the remains of dead pups in the back of the shed. The ones still alive were all skin and bone.
My daughter asked what the dogs were fed on and she was told "We don't mollycoddle our dogs, they a rabbit between them once a day. We just throw the rabbit over the door and then let them sort it out".So my daughter bought the smallest and weakest pup and we took it straight to my son-in-law who is a Dr. of veterinary medicine. He was appalled at the state of the pup and took measurements and photographs incase the RSPCA decided to prosecute the breeder. The pup also had a large lump on one side which we were told was probably due to being kicked.
So I drove to the local RSPCA offices and believe it or not they would not even come out of the offices to look at the puppy! So I had to make a real scene when some visitors came out and then somebody finally came out the office. The girl who came out came to my car an I showed her the pup who was supposed to be 6 months old. He was so thin if I put the tip of my index finger to my thumb tip it fitted around his neck! The reaction was, "How do I know you haven't done that to the pup?" So I pointed to my large sleek flatcoat and said "Do you really think I would starve one dog and not the other?" Anyway she then said "You should have left it there reported it to us and then if you found out it was dead you could report it to us and we could go and have a look" I then pointed out there were other dogs in the same condition and dead pups there, but she was not interested. Her next words were "So I suppose
you have come here to dump it on us then?"
Needless to say I do not remember the drive home, I was simply seeing red! I was so angry... after I had cooled off a little I decided to ring the KC, and although the pup was not registered with them, they advised me to contact the police as they had a duty to investigate cruelty. Thankfully this is what I did and the police went down and sorted it out. The following week the RSPCA turned up on my daughters doorstep as a neighbour had reported that she had a starving spaniel! The policeman who came with them was the one we had reported the breeder to the week before, so he knew all about the case. I dread to think what would have happened otherwise I suspect they would have seized the dog and prosecuted us!
Until that happened I would donate to collectors on behalf of the RSPCA and would attend events hosted by the local supporters branch of the RSPCA. Now I won't have anything to do with them. I think their anti dog fighting units are the only thing left of the organisation worth bothering with.
Sad to say this is not the only time I have reported something which I have come across in the course of my work and they have chosen to do nothing.
