Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Cheaper Dog Food

Not everyone feeds raw or really expensive completes such as Origen, JWB etc, and for those on a budget I would really like to recommend CSJ
Natural Champ.

My 2 have been on it for a couple of weeks now and are looking fab and the best bit is that their output is smaller, less smellier and firmer than ever before.  I still add a bit of Butchers to it but they scoff it even without.

£9.75 for 15kg, absolute bargin even with delivery charge.   Well worth looking at.

(No, I'm not on commission either :))

All our dogs are on CSJ and we are very pleased with the condition of the dogs we reared our last litter of pups on CSJ and i have to say they did brilliant on it and looked fab great food

Thanks for that, I think I'll give it a try next time I buy dog food (got 30kg of Beta at the moment).

I am more than happy to save some money if the dog does well on it :)

where do you get it from?,sounds a bargain

Yes, I've used CSJ for a couple of years, up until recently. The only problem I've had is getting it, there's no local stockist so I can only get at competition, and if I decide not to attend a competition I live in fear of running food :-(

My youngest girl, despite being raised on wheat gluten free as a pup refused to touch the wheat gluten feed the others were getting. So I put her onto the Champ and she loved it.  I've now moved to Chudleys Classic as I can get it locally, and she and her litter brother, who has recently joined us, are both enjoying this. He doesn't like wheat gluten free either!!  I do like these cheap to keep doggies!

I am just dithering about moving 2 of my older dogs back to CSJ lamb & rice as the Chudleys equivalent hasn't suited them quite so well. Actually, that's a lie, it suits them very nicely, it's just me not quite so happy with the quality of poos produced!  The 5th dog is just moving to AG Prestige ... but she's just a little bit special at the moment ;-)

But yes, I've digressed, I would certainly second your endorsement of CSJ food, and their herbal mixes.

PS I'm not on commission either, but I always find Ceri extremely helpful when I have a query!! :-D

daxilady, Have a look at their web site:
http://www.csjk9.com/stockists/

As mentioned, I don't have a local stockist, but the person who I tend to get it from at competitions will also deliver in my area, for free if ordering 2+ bags (he's based 70 miles from me).  Also look at the agility section of CSJ, with a whole lot of stockists in addition to those given on the above site:

I would still feed it now if I could find a local stockist cos I have a memory like a sieve and although the delivery is good I always forget to order in time.

My dogs did great on the lambe & rice and then latterly on the command performance.  Very good value.

I think I am still listed on the CSJ website as a stockist, although I don't stock it anymore..

The huge problem of being a stockist is that we have to order a minimum amount.. I think my last order was just under £1000, we actually have to buy it..not sell on behalf of CSJ.. but we do get a huge discount.. but the minimum order is a full pallet in Scotland (I think its a half pallet in England) which is 50bags.. and storage become a problem... mice love the stuff too ...

It might work out better and cheaper for you if you could perhaps gather a few friends together and bulk buy... looking at around 20% discount on a full pallet .. just a thought

I used to use CSJ before I switched to Raw (I occasionally use CPXtra as a weight gainer for my lean machine GSD) To be honest, I do like it and if you ever have any quieries with what would suit your dog, Ceri Rundle (owner) is always available to assist - 1st class customer service. Very good value for money too.

I agree whole heartedly. My 3 were on AG, but when our circumstances changed I had to look into ways of saving money. I'd seen CSJ recommended on here, so thought I'd give it a go. A 15kg sack was just around £16 with the delivery charge, so it was worth a punt.

They all switched over without any problems, even the beastie with the sensitive tum, the "waste" is much less as well. I order 2x15kg sacks at a time as the delivery charge is the same as for a single sack, and these 2 last me a month. I was getting through 3 sacks of AG a month.

All in all I've managed to save c£80 a month, and my lot love it and look good on it.

Hiya,
Have just asked Ceri to send out some samples of CSJ for my 2 girls to try...8 yr old JR and 2.5 yr old Cav..will see how they get on...its lots cheaper than Wainwrights aswell...We pay £32 a month at the moment, but with me having just lost my job :( we need to find a cheaper but just as good food for the dogs...hopefully this is it...if not, then they stay on Wainwrights and we economise elsewhere!!

I feed fish4dogs, it costs a fortune. The 'output' really bothers me - most foods with any cereal cause loads of it! Maybe CSJ is worth a try!
- By JackieG [gb] Date 30.04.10 13:07 UTC
How would I get samples?
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 30.04.10 13:19 UTC
i just googled CSJ dog food...sent an email..got a reply which said she was sending some samples out...told her what breed i had, ages ..weight etc.
Just have to wait for them now..

if anyone is in the Durham/northumberland area there are quite a few stockists aswell.

Just looked at the CSJ website, which of the foods  would you recommend for a dog that seems to eat anything, but also plays at being picky just to see if I offer anything else (which I don't) as there seem so many choices. Just want the right one for a cocker (the dustbin) and a terrier mix (the picky one ).

Hi Sue,
I just emailed Ceri and explained what mine are on now and she is sending out some samples....just ask her..shes really nice
- By sillysue Date 02.05.10 16:30 UTC
Thanks, have done exactly that now and emailed her for advice and samples of the type she recommends.
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 02.05.10 17:38 UTC
I emailed and got a whole box of samples to try with the girls - unfortunately they wouldn't eat it! However I was impressed with the quality and the price and might just try again now I've been reminded about it!
