Topic Dog Boards / General / Show venue?
- By henrieke [gb] Date 26.04.10 18:31 UTC
Hi, a committee I am on for a small breed club is looking for a village hall or similar we can hire for a breed open show and fun day in the Oxfordshire area.  Does anyone know of a dog friendly venue in the area? I dont think we are talking of more than 30 dogs, but will need outside area for a number of extra activities that we will have going on.
Any help will be appreciated!

There is a village hall in Steventon that might be ideal. Steventon is in between Abingdon and Didcot and very easy to get to. Have a look here for their website http://www.steventon.info/villagehall.html  I haven't actually been inside but they say the main room seats up to 250 people and the smaller one seats up to 60. So you should have plenty of room for people and dogs, and you could even use the smaller room for grooming in if necessary. I know there is a big field in front of the hall, but I'm not sure if you can hire it out, although I'm sure I have seen a doggie fun day been held there before. I keep meaning to check when there are shows being held there as it's about 5 minutes down the road from me. Hope this helps :)

Forgot to say, there is also St. Leonard's Church Hall in Watlington. I know my breed club holds a fun day there, and if I remember correctly there was also lots of space for outdoor activities. A Mrs Judy Keen is the booking manager and her number is 01491 612422. I don't think they have a website :)

Thanks for the info!  We are spread around the country so were looking for a central location.  We all live along the outskirts of the country so were without contacts for this area.

I know this is in Berkshire, but its almost on the border of Oxfordshire and our club use it for Xmas parties with the dogs, there is an outside space also.
Bradfield Village Hall, RG7 6EY.. There is no website, but there appear to be links via the parish council websites.

British Boxer Club holds it's open shows at Steventon village hall (it's last one was in March)
When this hall in unavailable they use Drayton village hall. http://draytonvh.org.uk

Steventon have small areas around the main hall floor for caging but it's not vast.
Don't know what breed you have but the Boxer cages fill these area's pdq and isn't enough for all that perhaps
would like to cage indoors. Although if you have small dogs you may get away with also using the stage area.
It has a kitchen that you can use and a seating area.
The bonus for Steventon is it's not far from the A34.
The recreation field is used by people that play football and walk their dogs. Not sure if hiring the hall gives you
any use of the recreation field to the side of the hall. Parking is reasonable and all tarmac'd.

I do know Bradfield Village hall in Berkshire (Not far from the Theale junction off the M4) is used for doggy events
See here for charges

Looking at it, if you wanted the hall and fields it would be £115 for the day.
It's a nice venue outside - although I've not been there for yonks and can't remember what the hall is like.
The Parish have their MayFayre at the same venue this weekend.

Another in Oxfordshire that I know is used for exemption shows and Oxford DCS for it's limit show is
Horspath village hall Nr Oxford http://www.horspath.org.uk/villagehall/
It does allow the hirer to use some of the recreation ground but you need to double check which areas you
are allowed to use.
