My sheltie Isla who is nearly two has a wonderful temperament.  She loves everyone and I have never heard her growl or snap.  I was reading about PAT dogs (Pets at Therapy)and thought she would be suitable. She has a beautiful long coat which is very strokeable.  So I have ordered the form on line which apparently will take a while to come.

Has anyone else had experience of this I wonder?  Would be interested to know.

Thanks

Snowflake

Not had experience as such, but I do know of a lovely lady who has trained at least one (that I can remember) of her Staffords to be a PAT dog.  (In the UK).
I'm considering a similar course for my Stafford, Alf, here in Qld.
He has a wonderful temperament, and I'd like to be able to put that to good use.

I am going to look into getting my bitch registered as a PAT dog, she's so loving and loves attention with the most placid nature. I'd be interested in anyones experiences

My bitch was registered as a Pat dog. We visited the elderly wards in a local psychiatric hospital, and later on visited in a unit for physically disabled adults. We were always warmly welcomed. Actually, the staff at the first hospital seemed to benefit enormously from our visits, almost more than the patients - I think it gave them a little light relief in their busy day!

I'm currently in the process of registering my Akita, Staffie and one of my Rottie's as PAT dogs.  I just phoned them up and they sent a pack out to me within a couple days.

I never did mine after getting the pack through, felt that i was going to struggle with time each month to do that too. It seemed very easy to do, once you get the pack you call up one of the local names persons, i also think vets can do it too?? and they assess your dog and then make a decision.
I may re look into doing it with my youngster as i now have more time.

My golden has been a PAT dog for two years, we visit a mental health hospital on a Tuesday & Thursday afternoon. It is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. I have seen some fantastic results, patients who have never communicated since they were admitted but when they see Kez they open up. Makes me very proud. The process did take a while as they are quite a small charity, well worth the wait though xxxx
