hi,
i am hoping you may be able to offer some advice. My pug is seven in may,i thought he was looking a little thin so i weighed him and he has lost two pounds(not alot, but alot in a small dog).He is eating the same amount,no extra walkies, may be slightly more active as we have a puppy, and he seems fine in himself.Should i be concerned or is this just old age catching up,
many thanks

When was he last wormed?  If he's up to date, may be worth getting bloods done.

My vet offers a discount on blood tests for dogs over 7.  Often you will find that it shows early signs of kidney/liver problems.

hi jeansw,
i wormed him yesterday as he was coming up to need doing,as he is happy and seems well,i am going to give him two weeks and then weigh himm again and hope that he has put some back on,if not then he will go to the vets for tests, but if its anything terminal or painful etc he will be pts when the time is right,i feel bad saying that,i am not giving up on him,but he is 7 on may the 8th and he should have died at two,no one thought he would get to five and he has proved them wrong!i just dont want him to suffer or to put him through another op at his age with all his underlying health issues,he deserves peace when his time comes, not another trip up the line and surgery,
One question,i always check my dogs poos for signs of worms, and have not seen any, does that mean he may still have them, also,if he did have them, will i see them now he has had his worm tablet
many thanks

Unless he had them badly, I doubt that you will see a thing.  I have only ever seen them after worming, in a very heavily infested dog.  (Not one that I bred, I hasten to add!)

How's his drinking - any more than normal ?. Weight loss could be a sign of diabetes so I would get him checked out. A simple urine test will tell the vet if he is or not. Good luck.

It may not be entirely relevant but both of mine have lost weight recently.  Same food, same volume etc but spring has sprung and they have both been zipping about like loons.

I also mentioned it to a few dog friends and it seems as if my dogs aren't the only ones.  I just put it down to seasonal madness and upped their food a bit.

Let's hope yours is a simple explanation too :)

hi,drinking same as normal,he keeps licking the slate floor like mad and trying to get into the cupboard where the bin is !?
he seems happy and his usual self, its his birthday soon and its amazing he has made it to seven,
i hope its something simple, but with george, its always something bad,i am preparing myself for the worst if the weight stays the same.
I dont know how i will explain it to my kids if he does pass away as they love him dearly
thanks
